Former Wrexham player Steven Fletcher could be about to seal his next move, and it will be a surprising one after leaving North Wales early this summer.
Following promotion to the Championship, Wrexham released eight first-team players. Among those was the experienced former Scotland striker Steven Fletcher.
Despite being 38 years old, Fletcher managed to score 16 goals in 77 total games for Wrexham, playing his part in the road to promotion from League One last season with eight goals.
But when it was announced that he was leaving the Racecourse, there were plenty of Wrexham fans who disagreed with Fletcher’s exit and who wanted him to stay at the club.
Phil Parkinson’s 13 summer signings have helped ease that tension, with the likes of Kieffer Moore having joined the club and having already scored four goals in five games for Wrexham.

Steven Fletcher could move to Qatar after leaving Wrexham
Fletcher has been without a club since he left Wrexham at the end of last season. The Scot has been keeping busy there doing punditry work and now it looks as though he could be on the verge of joining his next club.
A report from SportsBoom claims that Fletcher is now a target for Qatari side Al-Gharafa. They write that his ‘wages are not an issue’ for the club and that Fletcher is ‘considering a move abroad’ following his departure from Wrexham.
In his career, Fletcher has represented some huge clubs including the likes of Sunderland, Marseille, and Sheffield Wednesday among more. Now at 38 years old, a move to Qatar would certainly be a gamble but an exciting one for the big striker.

How Rob Mac reacted to Steven Fletcher’s Wrexham release
Fletcher was certainly a favourite among fans, and given his experience and his quality, Parkinson could certainly have used him as a squad player this season.
But few would argue that Wrexham have really upgraded their striker options this summer, and indeed their options in pretty much every position on the pitch.
Still, Wrexham co-owner Rob Mac was devastated when Fletcher left the club. Speaking earlier this summer, Mac said of Fletcher: “Even just bringing up his name is difficult because the brutal reality of football it just reminds me of how quickly you can go from spending all day with him here in Los Angeles promoting the show and playing golf.
“To putting him on a plane, sending him home and within 24 hours, Phil released him from the club and that was difficult.”
A move to Qatar though would get Fletcher back in the game, and potentially be a very fitting end to what’s been a long and successful career for the Scot, who’ll long be a favourite player among Wrexham fans.
