‘Sublime’ Wrexham summer signing is already on track to win Player of the Season

Wrexham had an excellent summer transfer window with several new faces already impressing at the club.

After winning promotion to League One, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds backed Wrexham heavily over the summer.

The Red Dragons broke their transfer record when Ollie Rathbone signed from Rotherham United for £500,000.

That record only stood for a few weeks, however, as Wrexham signed Modou Faal for a new club-record fee of £590,000.

Faal is yet to debut for the club but several other summer additions are already staking a claim to become key assets for Phil Parkinson.

Arthur Okonkwo has been backed to go to the ‘very top’ after he completed a free transfer from Arsenal early in the window.

And Parkinson heaped praise on Seb Revan after the former Aston Villa defender shone in the 0-0 draw with Bolton Wanderers last month.

However, there is another Wrexham star who has stood head and shoulders above the other summer additions in 2024/25.

Wrexham star George Dobson backed to win Player of the Season award

George Dobson joined Wrexham from Charlton Athletic on a free transfer and has become an instant star in Wales.

The midfielder has shone in every game he has played so far this term, with Dobson particularly impressive against Reading.

Now, speaking on the Rob. Ryan. Red podcast, journalist Nathan Salt has backed the 26-year-old to win the Player of the Season award.

He said: “First of all you’d say, already, he’s going to be player of the season.

“He’s so good on the ball, is really clever, he reads the game so well and he’s a real gem and I’m delighted.

“There’s been few players that have hit the heights of George Dobson. He offers you great vision, the weight of touch for [Jack] Marriott’s goal was just sublime and I think the runs he makes that open up the space are being overlooked as well.”

Who has been the best Wrexham summer signing

In total, Wrexham made eight first-team additions to their squad during the summer transfer window.

Later addition Faal has not had a chance to feature for his new team yet, while Dan Scarr and Lewis Brunt are yet to earn a lot of playing time under Parkinson.

Rathbone has also struggled to break into the team given how well Wrexham’s midfield started the season.

Dobson is a big reason for that and barring perhaps the huge capture of goalkeeper Okonkwo, he should be viewed as the Red Dragons’ best signing of the most recent window.

Revan has been a revelation at wing-back as well but Dobson has been the most consistent performer of Wrexham’s eight new players so far in 2024/25.
