Wrexham have a key date in mind before they can enjoy their end of season celebrations.

Phil Parkinson admitted holding a meeting with Humphrey Ker, Shaun Harvey and Michael Williamson before their 2-0 victory over Lincoln on the final day of the season.

The Wrexham squad are off to Las Vegas for their promotion party funded by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney but those left behind still have important work to do.

Parkinson admitted some players will leave Wrexham this summer and with six players out of contract come June 30th, time is running out to make a decision on their futures.

Wrexham given date to make contract decisions

Steven Fletcher is among a list of six players whose contract expires at the club on June 30 2025 but the club only have until May 17th to inform the players of their decision to release or retain.

Eoghan O’Connell and Mark Howard are the other first-team players on the list with young goalkeepers Liam Hall and Bradley Foster completing the list alongside Josh Adam.

Hall, Foster and Adam have options to extend their deal by a further year but time is running out for the club to make decisions with the EFL deadline looming.

Fletcher has loved his time at Wrexham and chipped in with some crucial goals during the season including late winners against Blackpool and Wigan over the festive period.

However, the time has come for the Red Dragons to decide whether the Scot can play for another year in the Championship or face his exit from the Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham should retain Fletcher and O’Connell but release Howard

The nature of Wrexham’s progression means there will be some tough decisions for Parkinson to make this summer involving departures from the club.

Fan favourites such as Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer are likely to leave the club alongside players such as Will Boyle and Luke Bolton, both of which have barely featured this season.

However, Fletcher and O’Connell have proven that they are still worthy of a place in the Wrexham squad for next season and their experience and leadership on and off the pitch will be vital.

The Red Dragons are highly likely to face a season of consolidation in the Championship and Parkinson will need his experienced pros to keep the dressing room calm and composed.

With only 25 places available in the squad, including goalkeepers, it may be time to say goodbye to Howard at 38 years of age, in what will be another sad departure from North Wales.
