Matty James completed a transfer to Wrexham last month and is quickly becoming a key player.
After a long-term injury to George Evans and a couple of their other players walking suspension tightropes, Wrexham saw their midfield ranks depleted.
This saw Phil Parkinson and co. utilise the free-agent market to provide cover in the centre of the park.
Matty James joined Wrexham on a free transfer after being released by Championship outfit Bristol City over the summer.
James made his first appearance in a Wrexham shirt versus Portvale in the EFL Trophy on November 12th, completing 90 minutes as his side lost 4-2 on penalties.
He then earned a five-minute cameo off the bench in the defeat to Stockport County but with Andy Cannon picking up his fifth yellow of the season in that clash, James was handed his first League One start the following weekend versus Exeter City.

What Matty James has noticed about Wrexham since completing transfer
After the 3-0 win, striker Ollie Palmer dubbed James an ‘unbelievable player’, praising the midfielder for how he controlled the tie.
The 33-year-old’s display over the weekend then earned him a second consecutive start when Wrexham beat Lincoln City 1-0 on Tuesday.
It was by no means a clinical from the Welsh outfit but they managed to come away with a big three points to keep their automatic promotion push going.
When discussing the Lincoln victory, as per Leader Live, James revealed the ‘excellent’ thing he has ‘noticed’ about Wrexham since joining.
He said: “In any match you’re playing, whether it be at the top or the lowest level, there’s going to be instances in the game where momentum swings happen and you’re going to have to dig deep.
“You’re going to have to defend, you’re going to have to battle and I think we did that.
“We passed the ball around really well at times. We had moments in the game where we probably should have done a little bit better but the endeavour and the willingness to keep the ball out of the net at the end is excellent and that’s something that I’ve noticed since I’ve come in.”

Wrexham clean sheet record compared to League One promotion rivals
Wrexham lost Arthur Okonkwo to injury earlier this month, with the goalkeeper expected to be out for at least six weeks, missing some key fixtures.
However, the Red Dragons number two has stepped up recently, with Parkinson praising Callum Burton heavily.
Burton has now started three League One games for the Welsh team, managing two shutouts in the process.
Combined, Wrexham’s keepers have now kept 10 clean sheets in the league in 2024/25 – at least one more than any of their promotion rivals.
| Team | League One clean sheets |
| Wrexham | 10 |
| Exeter City | 9 |
| Wigan Athletic | 8 |
| Wycombe Wanderers | 6 |
| Bristol Rovers | 6 |
