Wrexham are competing in the Championship next season and the spending power of their rivals has increased a great deal.

At present, the Red Dragons have made two signings during the 2025 summer transfer window.

Ryan Hardie cost Wrexham £700,000, signing for a reduced fee after Plymouth Argyle were relegated to League One.

Danny Ward then arrived on a free transfer, returning to his local club over a decade after he was sold to Liverpool.

It’s been a fairly quiet window for the Welsh side so far, and after losing to Sydney on July 15, Wrexham fans are demanding more signings.

Some are of the opinion that the current squad just isn’t good enough to compete in the Championship, so we have taken a look at how all 24 teams are faring in the transfer market this summer.

Wrexham spending vs every Championship club

Wrexham and Birmingham City have formed a rivalry over the last 12 months, in part due to their owners and the duo competing for promotion out of League One.

Both clubs wanted to sign Harry Darling, and Birmingham have been linked to Lewis O’Brien this summer as well.

But while Phil Parkinson’s side are taking their time getting players through the door, the Blues have been very active, including beating the Dragons to Tommy Doyle.

In fact, according to Transfermarkt, they are one of the highest spenders in the Championship this summer so far.

Who are Wrexham trying to sign

While their spending certainly isn’t the lowest in the Championship – Middlesbrough and Leicester City haven’t even made a signing yet, fans want to see more from the club.

Stepping up to the Championship is a big test, and supporters are starting to fear the squad isn’t good enough.

Owen Beck is a target and would provide more pace and power down the left flank.

Experienced defender John Egan is wanted by Wrexham as well, but right now, no deals appear close to completion.
