Wrexham could break their transfer record yet again this summer, with a deal thought to be close.

It has emerged in the last 24 hours that Wrexham are signing Liberato Cacace from Italian side Empoli.

The Red Dragons are expected to pay the recently relegated outfit a fee of £2.2m, which would be a new record if and when it happens.

Previously, Wrexham have broken their transfer record on four occasions since Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds became owners in February 2021.

Most recently, Sam Smith signed for just over £2m from Reading in the January transfer window, surpassing the previous record (Modou Faal) by nearly £1.5m.

Now, how much Rob and Ryan agreed to pay Smith following his arrival has been made public.

Sam Smith Wrexham wage becomes public

Smith had a fantastic start to life with Wrexham, scoring seven goals in the second half of 2024/25.

He played a key role in their promotion from League One but has now missed the club’s opening two pre-season games because of fitness issues.

Smith arrived on the same day Wrexham also signed Jay Rodriguez on a free transfer, and the wages of both players, along with the rest of the squad, have been shared.

Capology, who cover contract lengths and wages for most teams around the world, have now made the Red Dragons’ salary list public.

And they are reporting that Smith is taking home £15,000-a-week, making him the club’s joint-second highest earner.
