Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have brought a huge new audience to Wrexham following their takeover.

Wrexham were sold to Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac in February 2021 for £2m.

Since then, the Red Dragons have enjoyed major success on and off the pitch, including a predicted revenue of £50m for the 2025/26 season.

A big part of the Dragons’ revenue comes from commercial sponsorship deals, which are much higher than most Championship teams because of the appeal of their owners and all the fresh eyes they have brought to the club.

After taking over, Reynolds and Mac opted to produce a documentary to cover their time in charge of the Welsh outfit.

Welcome to Wrexham has been a big success and has attracted viewers from all around the globe, many of whom have become fans of the Dragons.

Wrexham fans could face rising costs for visits

In previous years, the club have made pre-season trips to North America, while 2025 saw Wrexham in Australia and New Zealand.

As expected, the documentary and new owners have brought a lot of tourism to the town in recent years.

Welcome to Wrexham often showcases interviews with supporters who have travelled from all around the globe to watch the team.

But in the coming years, those international fans could be charged more if they opt to stay in Wrexham.

As per the Leader, the Welsh Government have introduced a Visitor Levy Bill that will allow councils in Wales to introduce a tourist tax.

The levy is set at 75p per person per night for hostels and campsites, and £1.30 for other accommodation.

Those who wish to charge visitors for overnight stays must sign up by Autumn 2026, while councils can start introducing the tourist tax by 2027.

How many people watch Welcome to Wrexham

Season 4 of the hit series aired following the 2024/25 campaign and posted impressive viewing figures.

Around five million watched every episode of Welcome to Wrexham earlier this year.

It is not known how many of those viewers were from outside Wales, but it is expected that a sizable proportion came from places such as North America and Australia.

Season 5 of Welcome to Wrexham has been commissioned, and filming has already started.

It’s expected that the latest season will cover the club during their first Championship season.
