What out-of favour Wrexham ace was spotted doing in training ahead of Burton clash – it’s impressive

Wrexham are preparing for a League One clash against Burton Albion on Saturday afternoon.

Wrexham travel to Burton Albion this weekend, looking to put an end to their struggles on the road.

Phil Parkison has a remarkable record at the Racecourse Ground, which has most recently seen the Red Dragons win three on the spin and keep three clean sheets.

This weekend’s encounter, despite Burton sitting on just 11 points from 17 matches, is likely to prove a lot more difficult, however.

Wrexham have already drawn three and lost three when playing outside of Wales this season and their best eleven has taken a big hit this week.

Callum Burton, George Dobson and James McClean will all miss out vs Burton due to injury for the former and the latter two of that trio serving one-match bans.

As a result, Parkinson’s eleven will look slightly different against The Brewers and one man has been doing his best in training to show he deserves a rare start.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson looked sharp in Wrexham training before Burton

After Jack Marriott picked up an injury that will keep him out for four months, Jon Dadi Bodvarsson joined Wrexham on a free transfer in October.

The 32-year-old made his League One debut for the club with a 15-minute cameo off the bench against Mansfield Town.

He then started in the 1-0 defeat to Stockport County before garnering 11 minutes against Exeter City.

However, with Elliot Lee and Ollie Palmer leading the line of late, Parkinson has left Bodvarsson out of Wrexham’s last two matchday squads completely.

The former Bolton Wanderers star continues to work hard behind the scenes, however, and was spotted scoring a lovely, composed goal in training this week.

What Phil Parkinson said about Jon Dadi Bodvarsson’s Wrexham transfer

Bodvarsson is currently the fifth-choice striker at Wrexham behind Paul Mullin, Palmer, Steven Fletcher and Modou Faal.

And with his contract due to expire on December 31st, his future at the Racecourse appears to be in doubt.

Despite his uncertain future, Parkinson gave a positive verdict on Bodvarsson last month, dubbing the centre-forward ‘really good’.

He said: “We have brought in Jon Dadi Bodvarsson who has looked really good; he is getting up to speed and just needs game-time, and Paul Mullin is one moment away from getting himself up and running again which I am sure he will.

“We have just got to keep going. I have got a lot of belief in the lads we have got out on the pitch. We have got to keep chipping away. We have got players in the team who can score.”
