Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have managed to secure fresh investment in Wrexham, which could take the club to new heights.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have transformed Wrexham since they took ownership of the club from the Supporters Trust back in February 2021.

The high profile of the two Hollywood actors coupled with a number of smart decisions on and off the field have seen the Red Dragons reach League One in just a few years.

The Wrexham owners are not content to stop there, however, with more steps being taken to take the Welsh outfit even further.

Wrexham have now appointed a major architectural firm to explore stadium improvements, with the Racecourse very much in need of a fresh coat of paint after years of neglect owing to the clubs’ previously poor financial situation.

Wrexham are in talks to join the Welsh League Cup as well, which could allow them a way into Europe even before they reach the Premier League.

How Allyn family investment will help Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds improve Wrexham

Most recently, Wrexham confirmed on Wednesday that the Allyn family have become new minority investors in the club.

McElhenney and Reynolds were blown away by the Allyn family, expressing their joy in a joint statement earlier this week.

Now, The Wrexham Insider have spoken to Adam Williams, TBR’s Head of Football Finance and Governance Content, to get a better understanding of what the Allyng family will offer Wrexham.

He said: “Until we get an official update via Companies House, we won’t know exactly how much the Allyn family have invested or what stake they now own.

“The reports I’ve seen suggest that they have injected a few million, which indicates that it would be a significant minority stake.

“It would be fascinating to see what kind of equity stake they would get for, say, £5m because Wrexham are a uniquely difficult club to value.

“Their global commercial appeal means it is very hard to quantify, but you can guarantee that they have a massively outsized enterprise value compared to other League One clubs that they might have historically been in the same peer group as.

“The capital that the Allyn family have invested will likely go towards infrastructure investment and operational costs, as well as investing in the commercial side of the club.

“It’s hard to say in terms of the transfer market as there are a number of variables there.

“For one, they will be under a different set of FFP rules if they get promoted to the Championship. But it looks like the Championship rules will change from next season anyway, and we don’t know how the new system will treat equity investment.

“I think where the partnership will really pay off, with the networking opportunities that the Allyn family will provide.

“Wrexham can use their expertise in different markets to optimise their commercial operation, bring in new sponsors.

“In the context of football’s spending rules, the commercial department is where they really need to push the envelope.

“So I think this partnership is more about increasing future operating revenue than it is about increasing the club’s capital base at this exact moment in time.”

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will take Wrexham to Premier League

Wrexham are currently battling it out in League One, vying with Birmingham City and Wycombe Wanderers for an automatic promotion place.

While still at least a couple of years away, it is becoming clear that their owners are on course to guide to the club into the top flight for the first time in their history.

One Wrexham expert has already explained why the club will make it to the Premier League, pointing toward two behind-the-scenes appointments as a key reason why.

And with this new investment expected to improve the Red Dragons even more, top-flight football should be on the cards sooner rather than later.
