Humphrey Ker has gone from executive director to community director at Wrexham, adapting his role within the club as it continues to grow both on and off the field.

Wrexham are verging on history right now with Phil Parkinson’s side potentially one game away from an unbelievable third-straight promotion.

On Saturday, Wrexham can secure promotion from League One if they beat Charlton Athletic at the Racecourse and if Wycombe Wanderers lose away at Leyton Orient.

Ahead of the weekend journalist Rich Fay has predicted a draw for Wrexham and Charlton Athletic, and for Wycombe and Orient too, backing the decision on whether or not Wrexham will finish in 2nd to go down to the final game of the season at Lincoln City.

If the Dragons do secure promotion then it’ll prompt another influx of staff and players as the club readies for what would be their biggest challenge yet, and perhaps one that would take years to conquer.

Humphrey Ker says Wrexham fans were asking him to sign Kevin De Bruyne

Speaking on Men In Blazers, Wrexham’s community director Humphrey Ker was discussing his role at Wrexham and how it’s changed. Speaking about his previous role as an executive, Ker revealed how he was inundated with emails all of the time, from various fans and such, who often had requests for the club.

And one specific topic that fans often quizzed him on was Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian is leaving Man City in the summer and Ker revealed how he was receiving emails all the time asking him why Wrexham haven’t yet made their move for the Premier League legend.

Ker explained: “As the club has grown, I found that my role as a sort of executive figure, and sort of sub-board level, was less and less necessary. Michael Williamson the new CEO and so many new members of staff… we just keep hiring people left right and centre, which is brilliant because we are growing and we desperately needed to do that stuff.

“But I was getting loads of emails from people being like, ‘Why haven’t you signed Kevin De Bruyne’, [and] ‘Could you play Ross Common in a friendly because I’m going there.”

Wrexham’s highest-paid player vs Kevin De Bruyne’s crazy Man City wage

De Bruyne to Wrexham is of course a step too far. But the fact that so many fans have put the question towards Ker just shows how much ambition the club really does have, and one day we might even be talking about Wrexham in conversation with players of De Bruyne’s ilk.

And one day, we might be talking about Wrexham and their ridiculously high-paid players. De Bruyne earn a whopping £340,000-a-week at Man City, per Salary Sport, making him the joint highest-paid player at the Etihad, which is the kind of benchmark in terms of wages in global football right now.

Meanwhile at Wrexham, George Dobson is the highest-paid player per the same source, taking home £7,200-a-week. But as the club continues to grow and push up the Football League, their wages and their overall budget will increase, allowing the club to attract bigger and better.
