Wrexham will be looking to build momentum from their Carabao Cup victory over Preston North End as they head into their next Championship fixture.

Phil Parkinson’s side face a tough trip to Millwall, who have started the season with two victories out of three matches.

EFL pundits have predicted a tight game and the Red Dragons will have to defend better than they have shown in their last two home fixtures.

Parkinson was impressed with Ryan Hardie during the win over Preston and the striker could make his first start in the league. However, Wrexham fans have been told they are forgetting an important fact about one star.

Wrexham fans reminded Harry Ashfield is doing something unique at his age

There have been some frustrations from fans over the performances of Wrexham so far this season but there have also been some individual highlights.

Kieffer Moore has started his Wrexham career in excellent fashion and speaking on the latest episode of the ‘Rob.Ryan.Red’ podcast, journalist Nathan Salt has praised young midfielder Harry Ashfield.

Salt stated: “We’re in the away end and there are a lot of angst and a lot of people that are frustrated. There were a couple of times he got brushed off the ball.

“But what we’re forgetting is that he is doing things a lot of players his age are not doing, which is playing in proper men’s football.”

Ashfield impressed against Preston and scored the equaliser in the second half to grab his second goal in senior football.

At 19 years old, Ashfield is continuing to develop under Parkinson and will be looking to further enhance his reputation with more appearances this season.

Wrexham likely to keep Harry Ashfield this season

Ashfield doesn’t have to be registered in the 25-man squad for the Championship and given his excellent start to the season, Wrexham are likely to keep the academy product at the club.

Wrexham fans labelled Ashfield as ‘impressive’ during pre-season and he has carried that form into the start of the campaign in the Carabao Cup fixtures.

Wrexham were looking to loan out Ashfield at the start of the summer but given the injuries to Ollie Rathbone and Jay Rodriguez those plans have changed.

The next step for Ashfield is to try and work his way into the Championship matchday squads and take his chance when it eventually comes.
