Wrexham trio including ‘gifted’ player could secure temporary transfers in 2025 summer window

It’s expected to be a summer of change at Wrexham as they prepare for life in the Championship.

Before a single signing has been made, Wrexham already have 27 players aged 21 or above on their books.

With the Championship squad limit at 25, that means that at least two players would have to be cut by Phil Parkinson even before a new player arrives.

As a result, it’s not surprising that Parkinson has said Wrexham will let players depart in the current transfer window.

Some of those deals could be permanent, with Wigan Athletic eyeing Paul Mullin on a potential free transfer despite his contract running until 2027.

But there could also be a few temporary exits between now and the deadline on September 1.

Harry Ashfield among players Wrexham could loan

Following in the footsteps of Max Cleworth, Harry Ashfield is the latest rising star to emerge from the club’s academy.

Wrexham fans dubbed Ashfield ‘unreal’ during 2024/25 when he was showcasing his major potential in the EFL Trophy against Peterborough United.

His long-term future at the Racecourse did appear to be in doubt amid his contract due to run out this month, but he’s since signed a new deal with the club.

Parkinson called Ashfield ‘gifted’ in the most recent season and could now be ready to sanction a temporary exit for the player.

It comes with The Athletic naming the teenager as one of the players who could be ‘farmed out’ on loan this summer.

Jake Bickerstaff and Modou Faal could be loaned out

The other two names mentioned in the report are Jake Bickerstaff and Modou Faal.

Like Ashfield, Faal impressed in the EFL Trophy earlier this year but played less than 90 minutes in League One.

With Wrexham stepping up another division in 2024/25, his game time in Wales is likely to be limited again, so a move elsewhere for the club’s previous record signing would make sense.

As for Bickerstaff, he spent 2024/25 on loan with Altrincham and also looks well down the striker pecking order right now.
