With the two clubs having such high profile owners, it’s no surprise Birmingham City and Wrexham developed a rivalry this season, and it’s set to kick off again next term after Tom Brady’s latest comments.

Thanks to Birmingham’s relegation down to League One and Wrexham being promoted from League Two, football fans got the rare treat of seeing superstar owners doing battle this season.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were more than happy to drive the rivalry between Wrexham and Tom Brady’s Birmingham City side as the two sides fought for promotion.

In the end, Birmingham won the war and clinched the title but the Red Dragons will follow them into the Championship; and it could get fiery when the two teams meet again.

Tom Brady makes bold Birmingham City claim to put down Wrexham

We know that the Wrexham owners love Tom Brady really, but the rivalry between both sides has been a joy to watch, and long may it continue.

Now, thanks to Brady’s comments over the weekend in an appearance on CBS Sports ahead of the Champions League final, it’s safe to say Wrexham fans will be desperate to prove him wrong next season.

As presenter Kate Scott discussed the fact that her guests, Thierry Henry, David Beckham, and Brady all owned football clubs, she made a grave error.

She said: “Thierry is involved in Serie A with Como. David, obviously, Inter Miami but also Salford City now as well. And you’re obviously with Wrexham, we should say congratulations, by the way.”

Brady interjected to remind Scott that he in fact has a stake in Birmingham City, leaving the presenter mortified at her mistake.

Brady then went on to say: “You know what, we beat Wrexham. Let’s not talk about Wrexham. But we kicked their a– this year, multiple times.”

Interestingly, those inflammatory comments are not even accurate. Birmingham did beat Wrexham this season, but only once.

A 3-1 win at St. Andrew’s gave the Blues bragging rights, but Wrexham clinched a 1-1 draw at the Racecourse Ground in January to regain some credibility.

2025/26 campaign could be very different for Birmingham and Wrexham

It will be fascinating not only to see Wrexham and Birmingham play each other once again this coming season, but also to see how the two teams fare in the second tier.

Birmingham have more financial muscle and are most certainly aiming to get out of the Championship and return to the top flight as soon as possible, while Wrexham may well have to be more patient.

In our early prediction for the 2025/26 campaign, we envisage Wrexham achieving a respectable midtable finish. In many ways, that would be more than enough for a first season back in the second tier in 43 years.

Ryan Reynolds wants Wrexham in the Premier League within the next decade. That’s certainly doable given the club’s revenue and ambitious owners, but they may well find that Birmingham are already there waiting for them.
