David Beckham was a pioneer of football over in the States, and he was also a very big fan of someone who Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac’s Wrexham could now sign.

English football’s popularity in the US has sky-rocketed over the last decade or so, and Sir David Beckham is certainly someone who played a huge role in helping to do so.

So too have Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac with Wrexham. The Hollywood duo bought Wrexham back in 2021 and now have the club in the Championship, spending big money in a bid to reach the Premier League.

This summer, Wrexham spent £40million on new players, setting up manager Phil Parkinson to challenge for what would be a fourth-straight promotion and finally land themselves in the big time.

And even though Wrexham have already signed 13 new players this summer, the Dragons are now being linked with free agents, with one being former Spurs and England star Dele Alli.

Some big names have moved to the Racecourse this summer: Ben Sheaf was Coventry City’s captain but he’s now swapped that for Wrexham, with names like Wales hero Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead all making the move to Wrexham as part of the club’s Premier League promotion push.

And there were a lot of big names who were linked but who didn’t sign in the end: Wrexham were linked with Jamie Vardy for a long time, and there were even reports confirming that Wrexham made an approach to sign Christian Eriksen after his Man United release.

Recently, reports have revealed how Wrexham are among the teams interested in signing Alli after the 29-year-old was released by Serie A side Como following another failed stint for the midfielder.

What David Beckham said about Dele Alli in 2017 is heart-breaking now

The 2016/17 season was Alli’s real breakthrough. He scored 18 goals in the Premier League for Spurs and picked up a number of individual accolades, including the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

And speaking to The FA about Alli following the award, Beckham gave a glowing review of Alli’s abilities, saying: “He plays with a certain arrogance and it’s good to have that arrogance because a lot of top players have that. They play in a way where you expect great things from them and in the last couple of seasons he has produced those things.

“He’s a joy to watch and hopefully if he works hard, as he has been, continues to play for the manager that he plays for [Mauricio Pochettino] because I think he’s a special manager and has looked after him in the right way, then he will continue to be a special player.”

Beckham also explained how he hopes Alli gets better and better, which obviously didn’t happen, though. “I hope he continues to get better week after week because, as an England fan, I want to see these players perform the way that he is performing,” said Beckham.

Several clubs and managers have now tried and failed to get Alli’s career back on track. If Parkinson can do that then Wrexham will have another star in their squad.
