Ben Foster has revealed how Ryan Reynolds has hung one of his old Wrexham shirts up in his own home.

Although he didn’t play for Wrexham for very long, Ben Foster became an instant cult hero at the club. He arrived towards the end of the 2022/23 season when Wrexham were in dire need of a goalkeeper for the run-in to promotion.

Coming out of retirement, Foster made eight appearances as Wrexham went on to win promotion back to the Football League, eventually going on to make 35 total appearances for the club having spent time on loan at the Racecourse as a youngster.

Having retired once again, Foster now regularly talks Wrexham, attending their pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand as a club ambassador too.

Foster played in Wrexham’s famous win over Boreham Wood back in April 2023. That win sealed promotion back to the Football League and memorably, after the game, co-owner Ryan Reynolds demanded Foster’s match jersey whilst Foster was mid-interview.

Now appearing on Sam Allardyce’s No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Foster has revealed that Reynolds has since hung up that jersey in his home.

Foster explained: “He actually sent me a picture about three weeks ago. It’s in a room at his house, I don’t know where or whatever and he literally just sent a selfie, of him and the shirt’s in a frame on the wall behind him… I think I replied, ‘I hope that’s in your bedroom, by the way!'”

Ben Foster hits the nail on the head with Wrexham owners

Whilst everyone will point towards the money spent, with Wrexham spending more than £30million this summer, all the money coming in from sponsorships and commercial streams and whatnot, Wrexham under Reynolds and Rob Mac have maintained an uncanny feel about them.

Despite the glitz and glamour that the owners bring, they’re obviously very down to earth people and that attitude has reflected through the club. Speaking earlier this summer, Foster revealed what Reynolds and Mac have changed at Wrexham, which is actually very little.

Instead, Foster insists it’s still the same football club he was at on loan way back in 2005. He said: “The main thing is that it’s still the same club. That’s the bar, that’s the essence of it that still matters the most, that it’s still the same football club. The community’s there, it still feels and tastes the same, but it’s a lot shinier.”

The project is still only getting underway though, it seems. Wrexham are pushing hard for the Premier League and making big strides in their efforts. Next up is a game against Derby County in the Championship.
