Wrexham said goodbye to a number of players during the summer transfer window, including some who were influential in 2025/26.
Every summer seems to see a big turnover in players at Wrexham, and it’s purely a symptom of their continuing, rapid rise up the Football League.
Phil Parkinson has to be ruthless and he has been, saying goodbye to names like Ollie Palmer who left Wrexham on a permanent deal this summer, and Paul Mullin who’s only left on loan, but looks unlikely to play for the club again.
Elsewhere, Wrexham released eight first-team players at the end of last season, including Steven Fletcher.
Several others alongside Mullin have also left the club on loan this summer, including the likes of Mo Faal and Jacob Mendy among others.

What is Eoghan O’Connell up to after Wrexham exit?
One player who was key last season was Eoghan O’Connell. The Irishman was a rock at the back featuring 39 times in League One, with shouts for O’Connell to be named as Wrexham’s Player of the Season even. But the 30-year-old is now a free agent.
Wrexham and O’Connell parted ways at the end of the summer transfer window. During the summer, Wrexham signed Conor Coady and then signed Dom Hyam on deadline day, and after O’Connell had failed to feature in the league even before Hyam’s arrival, the time had come for him to leave the Racecourse.
But now three weeks after leaving the club, O’Connell remains a free agent, with no sign of a quick return to the game either.

What next for Eoghan O’Connell?
O’Connell is certainly experienced with 159 appearances at League One level and 106 in League Two, and it may be that League One or Two is the next place he’ll find a club.
And he showed last season that he can be crucial for a team like Wrexham who eventually finished in 2nd place, so there could be a lot of top-end League One clubs looking at the defender.
| O’Connell’s career so far | Games | Goals | Assists |
| Rochdale | 131 | 3 | 4 |
| Wrexham | 91 | 2 | 4 |
| Bury | 52 | 3 | 2 |
| Charlton | 22 | 1 | – |
| Walsall | 17 | 1 | – |
| Celtic | 13 | – | – |
| Cork City | 9 | 1 | 1 |
O’Connell may simply be biding his time until the right offer comes along, or he may be considering other options, even abroad having spent his entire career playing in the UK and Ireland.
Expect him to land a new club soon enough, though, and expect him to become a key player at whichever club he lands at.
