Wrexham midfielder George Dobson turned in another committed performance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Derby County.
Wrexham’s 1-1 draw with Derby County saw Lewis O’Brien grab the headlines.
O’Brien escaped a first-half red card and then popped up to haunt Derby by scoring the opening goal.
Phil Parkinson hailed Issa Kabore’s assist for O’Brien’s header, but it wasn’t enough for the win as Derby grabbed an equaliser through Ben Brereton Diaz.

Wrexham star George Dobson leads the Championship in one area
O’Brien was the star, but fellow midfielder George Dobson produced another busy display in the Wrexham engine room.
Dobson has really stepped up a level this season, adjusting to life in the Championship in rapid fashion.
A proven League One performer for many years, Dobson had never played in the Championship before this season.
Some had questions over Dobson’s ability to play at this level, but he has been outstanding so far.
Saturday’s display saw Dobson notch four tackles, and that tally against Derby County means he now leads the Championship.
Dobson sits top of the tree with 26 tackles from just seven appearances, which is an average of 3.7 tackles per game.
The Wrexham star is two tackles ahead of West Bromwich Albion’s Callum Styles and Blackburn Rovers’ Ryan Alebiosu, while O’Brien sits joint-10th with 19 so far.
Dobson has not only stepped up on the ball, but he remains a real force out of possession, and it’s great to see him winning so many tackles against Championship opposition.
| Player | Team | Number of tackles in 2025-26 Championship season |
| George Dobson | Wrexham | 26 |
| Callum Styles | West Brom | 24 |
| Ryan Alebiosu | Blackburn | 24 |
| Aidan Morris | Middlesbrough | 22 |
| Ryan Leonard | Millwall | 22 |

George Dobson could fend off Ollie Rathbone in Wrexham’s midfield
Deadline day signing Ben Sheaf is taking a key role in Wrexham’s midfield, while O’Brien is making a big impact.
That leaves one spot in the Wrexham midfield, and some may have expected Ollie Rathbone to slot in.
Rathbone suffered a bad injury in pre-season and hasn’t played for Wrexham since.
Rathbone is nearing a return to action, but Dobson has really stepped it up and could fend Rathbone off for a while yet.
Dobson’s ability to drop deeper if Parkinson switches from a 3-5-2 to a 3-4-2-1 system is very important, and it’s no surprise to see him starting week in and week out.
Rathbone will make an impact upon his return, but he may find that Dobson is difficult to force out of the line-up.
