Wrexham player breaks silence on his future amid rumours that he could leave the club this summer

One exciting Wrexham player could be on his way out this summer after finally speaking out about what the next weeks and months could hold.

Wrexham will need all the quality they can get this summer, following their promotion to the Championship and their third-straight promotion under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Phil Parkinson has already spoken about Wrexham’s summer transfer plans revealing that the club won’t be breaking the bank on any big-name players or superstars. Instead, he’ll scour the free agent market and look for bargains everywhere he can.

And he’ll also look to make Championship-quality players out of those already at his disposal. There are plenty of players in the side like James McClean and Jay Rodriguez with Championship experience, and those with Championship potential too like Max Cleworth and more.

But one name who Parkinson has a bit of a dilemma with is striker Sam Dalby.

Sam Dalby discusses Wrexham future with contract offer on the table

In the January transfer window Wrexham offered a contract extension to Dalby who sees his current deal at the Racecourse expire this summer. It was then rumoured that he’d rejected that offer though, nothing official has been confirmed. He’s enjoyed a brilliant season in Scotland with 14 goals in 33 Scottish Premiership games.

And recent reports have revealed that Blackpool are interested in signing Dalby this summer when his contract expires. Manager Steve Bruce is also understood to have scouted Dalby in person at Dundee United in recent weeks.

Speaking about what the future might hold for him, the 25-year-old Dalby has told The Courier: “I’m just focused on the last two games. I think it would be a disservice to the club if I started thinking about other things. There’s two big games and I’ll be looking forward to them.

“I’ve always been quite good at just being able to focus on game by game and staying in the moment. That’s what will give me the best opportunity to play well for Dundee United.”

Dundee United boss speaks out on Sam Dalby’s Wrexham future

It’s been widely reported now that Dundee United want to sign Dalby permanently in the summer when his contract in Wales expires. And manager Jim Goodwin has already given his verdict on the striker.

Goodwin says Dalby has a big decision to make at Wrexham with several strikers at the club – and more likely to arrive in the summer – meaning that he’s likely to fall even further down the pecking order should he sign a new deal and stay.

“I think Sam’s got a big decision to make in the summer,” said Goodwin. “Of course, he has got that offer on the table from Wrexham.

“They already have four or five strikers at the club. The fact, in January, that they could spend £2million on the boy [Sam] Smith tells you exactly what their intention will be next season going into the Championship.”

After such a prolific season in Scotland, Dalby has certainly given himself some options for the summer. He could secure a Championship move by signing with Wrexham or he could yet play European football with Dundee United next time round.
