Wrexham face big decisions in attack this summer and could see Sam Dalby depart the club as a free agent.

Wrexham signed two strikers in January as Phil Parkinson attempted to secure promotion to the Championship.

Sam Smith arrived in a club-record transfer from Reading, before Jay Rodriguez said an emotional goodbye to Burnley as he joined the Wrexham project.

Wrexham are now carrying seven centre forwards, leaving Parkinson to make some difficult decisions.

Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer have been exiled, and the Wrexham heroes could leave the club this summer.

38-year-old Steven Fletcher has hinted at playing on, and Modou Faal may need a loan move next season.

Dundee United boss on Sam Dalby

We are expecting comings and goings in Wrexham’s attack this summer, and that includes Sam Dalby.

Wrexham allowed Dalby to join Dundee United last summer, sanctioning a loan deal in the final year of his contract.

Dalby only scored one goal in League Two last season, and Wrexham were happy to let him go.

Nobody at the STōK Cae Ras could have predicted Dalby’s goalscoring exploits in Scotland, with the striker smashing 13 goals in 26 Scottish Premiership games.

Dalby is out of contract this summer, and Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin has commented on his future.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Goodwin called on Dundee United to push the boat out in order to secure Dalby’s signature.

Goodwin vowed to ‘try and compete’ for Dalby’s signature, accepting that there will be rival clubs in the race.

Goodwin does, though, feel that a ‘proven goalscorer’ like Dalby is the kind of player worth investing money in ahead of next season.

“We’re going to try and compete and hold on to Sam,” said Goodwin.

“We are realistic about that situation but, at the same time, if ever there was a player worth pushing the boat out for, then a proven goal-scorer would certainly be that,” he added.

Wrexham have offered Dalby a new deal

Dalby has enjoyed the best period of his career with Dundee United, and staying put should appeal.

The striker is bound to have English interest, though, and he must think long and hard about his next move.

We must point out that Wrexham have offered Dalby a new contract in an effort to keep him at the STōK Cae Ras.

It’s difficult to imagine Dalby staying at Wrexham, as his stock has never been higher and he is bound to be inundated with offers.

Returning to Wrexham would likely mean sitting down the pecking order under Parkinson – even if promotion can’t be secured.

Dalby is surely on his way out of Wrexham this summer, but whether he commits his future to Dundee United remains to be seen.
