Wrexham dropped two huge points in the League One promotion race when they met Cambridge United on Tuesday.
Paul Mullin’s former club have had a dire 2024/25 campaign and kicked off against Wrexham inside the relegation zone.
A win for the Red Dragons seemed likely and three points did look to be heading back to Wales when George Dobson scored a stunning effort after four minutes.
However, when all was said and done, Sam Smith had to rescue a point as Wrexham drew 2-2 with Cambridge United for the second team this season.
At the same time, the North American-owned club’s closest rivals, Wycombe Wanderers, were in action against Shrewsnury Town, who are also in bad form this season.
Like Wrexham, however, Wycombe dropped two points after failing to score against Shrewsbury, leaving them three points outside the top two.

Wrexham now predicted to finish second in League One
However, despite failing to beat Cambridge in midweek, the Welsh outfit have now seen their promotion chances increase.
In late March, Wrexham were predicted to finish third in League One by Opta’s supercomputer, with Wycombe instead going up automatically.
However, after the latest round of games in the third tier, it is Parkinson and co. who now have the best chance of finishing second in the division.
As expected, Birmingham aren’t won’t be moved from top spot, with Wrexham seeing their chances of promotion increase to a staggering 58.6 percent, while Wycombe’s have fallen significantly compared to just two weeks ago.

Wrexham must improve one thing to guarantee promotion
Being predicted to finish second is all well and good, but actually getting the job done is a different matter.
It is looking positive for Wrexham right now, despite their recent blip, but they must be wary of Wycombe.
Mike Dodds’ side still have a game in hand to play out, and their superior goal difference could prove the deciding factor in the race for second.
The Red Dragons are generally good at keeping goals out, but they need to start beating teams in a more convincing fashion to boost their own goal difference.
Rob McElhenney spoke about Wrexham’s 1-0 wins recently and it would be a shame if they end up failing to go up just because they didn’t score as many as Wycombe.
