One player linked to Wrexham this summer has now been backed to take up a role in management.

The summer transfer window reopened on June 16, and the Red Dragons wasted little time getting a deal over the line.

Wrexham signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth Argyle, landing the striker for £700,000 – £1.3m less than his release clause prior to Plymouth’s relegation.

Plenty more signings are expected this summer, though, with Barry Bannan now a target for the Welsh outfit.

Elsewhere, a player linked earlier this summer has spoken on his future again, while being backed to become a manager by a former teammate.

Wrexham target Jonny Evans backed to become manager

Reports emerged in early May that Wrexham were looking at Jonny Evans ahead of his Manchester United exit.

Manchester United have now released Evans, and his future is up in the air.

Now 37, the centre-back is toward the end of his playing career and speaking recently, as per News Letter, Evans’ former Northern Ireland teammate Conor Washington has tipped the player to take up a role in management.

He said: “Jonny thinks about the game, really kind of horrible to play against, relentlessly calculating things in his head. He’s a good talker. He doesn’t say loads, but when he does, it’s considered.

“And I think he’s got an air of… although his career sort of bought him the respect and things like that, I think lads respect him anyway just because of the character he is.

“So yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Jonny on a touchline, to be honest.”

Jonny Evans comments on his future

It was claimed by one journalist at the end of May that Evans was retiring after leaving Man Utd.

However, speaking last week, the Wrexham target commented on his future and said he was not in a rush to make a decision.

Evans offered a similar verdict once again recently, as per Belfast Live.

He stated: “When I retired from international football, I thought it might prolong my club career, but I picked up a few injuries.

“I think it was the right decision at the right time for me to call it a day, but I miss it [playing for Northern Ireland].

“I’m not sure what I’ll do next, I’m going to take a bit of time as I don’t feel I’m in a rush to do anything.”
