After suffering a dislocated elbow against Millwall earlier this season, Wrexham goalkeeper Danny Ward was spotted in McDonald’s wearing his full kit.
Wrexham-born Danny Ward made his return to the club this summer, after previously leaving to sign for Liverpool way back in 2012.
Wrexham signed Ward on a free transfer and he was Phil Parkinson’s no.1 for the start of the campaign away at Southampton.
The Welsh international played four games before suffering a dislocated elbow in the game against Millwall at the end of August, with the 32-year-old having since undergone surgery.

Wrexham goalkeeper Danny Ward says McDonald’s images were genuine
Ward’s injury was a severe one. The game against Millwall was stopped for 15 minutes as Ward received treatment on the field before being taken straight to hospital. But later that evening, pictures surfaced on social media of Ward ordering food at a McDonald’s restaurant, with his elbow in a sling and still wearing his full Wrexham kit.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Ward confirmed those images were genuine. He joked: “I was looking for a sponsorship deal! It was a strange day, a long day. I’d been through the ringer. [We got] a little bit of food and we were on our way.”
Since Ward’s injury, Arthur Okonkwo has returned to the starting XI. Though in five Championship starts this season, the former Arsenal man is yet to keep a clean sheet, conceding nine goals in the process. Wrexham currently sit in 18th place of the table.
What Phil Parkinson said about Danny Ward’s injury
Losing an important, starting player so early in the season was inevitably a blow for Wrexham, and for Parkinson too who made the bold decision to opt for Ward over Okonkwo at the start of the campaign.
Speaking in September, Parkinson gave an injury update on Ward at Wrexham, saying that he’s expected to be out until the start of 2026.
Parkinson said: “The operation went fine. Obviously we feel for Danny, but it is what it is with him. It’s a blow for him because he’d got in the team… Danny will be back here with us later in the week and it will be good to catch up with him. I think we are looking about four months.”
By then, Parkinson might be desperate to reinstate Ward. Okonkwo hasn’t looked all that assured so far, with glimpses of a top goalkeeper but too much inconsistency in his performances so far.
But Wrexham also won’t want to rush Ward back after such a serious injury. The Dragons return to action against Stoke City next weekend.
