The new owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, have invested heavily in Wrexham since buying the club four years ago.

Wrexham’s five most expensive signings have all been bought this summer transfer window, as they made 13 signings.

This was seen in their willingness for Wrexham to spend £33 million on these new signings; however, one thing that has not been occurring at the Welsh club since the new owners took over is much money coming into the club through transfer sales.

So, Wrexham Insider have taken a look at the five most expensive sales that Wrexham have made in their history, according to Transfermarkt.

5. Craig Morgan – £328K

To begin our list is the most recent departure to be considered, as Craig Morgan left the club in the summer of 2005 to join MK Dons.

He had begun his career at the Red Dragons, featuring in 52 league games for them; however, he would have a fine EFL career as he played for the likes of Wigan Athletic and Preston North End.

The Welsh international would earn 23 caps for his nation, with his debut against Cyprus in October 2006 in a European Championship qualifier.

Morgan would retire in 2019 after a season with Fleetwood Town in League One, 17 years after his senior debut with Wrexham.

4. David Brammer – £424K

Another player to come through the youth system at Wrexham, he spent his first seven seasons of professional football at the club before moving onto Port Vale.

The Red Dragons would like to see an improvement to their current academy so they can acquire funds for players and have the likes of Brammer and Morgan come through to play first team for them.

David Brammer was a key player for the Welsh side, as he played in 168 matches for the club.

3. Barry Hunter – £437K

The Northern Irishman joined Wrexham from Crusaders in 1993, and he would spend three years at the Welsh club.

Barry Hunter would join Reading in 1996 as they spent £437K, allowing the Welsh club to make a tidy profit on the Northern Irishman.

He would spend another five years in English football before leaving to retire back in Northern Ireland with Portadown.

Following his retirement from football, he has remained involved with the sport, working with Liverpool as a chief scout.

2. Neil Roberts – £524K

Neil Roberts would make four international caps for Wales, with the striker coming through the Wrexham ranks before he would spend the first six years of his career making 75 league appearances, scoring 17 goals.

His next game for the Red Dragons would not come for six years, as he left the club initially to join Wigan Athletic for £524K; he would sign for Doncaster Rovers before joining Wrexham again in 2006.

He would make a further 55 league appearances with another 11 goals coming in these games before he would leave after two years to see out his career at Rhyl.

1. Bryan Hughes – £1.3 million

The most expensive sale Wrexham have ever made is Bryan Hughes, when he signed for Birmingham City in 1997.

Hughes was another player who came through the youth academy at Wrexham despite being from Liverpool, and he is the only sale from the club to be over £1 million.

He featured in four seasons with Wrexham before moving to Birmingham, and he would spend eight seasons at the club, helping them win promotion to the Premier League in 2002.

Hughes was a prolific attacking midfielder throughout his career, beginning that at Wrexham, as he scored 20 goals in 119 appearances.

He would return to the club as a manager while they were in the National League but was unable to lift them from the division.
