Wrexham were busy this summer as they brought 13 signings to the club in the transfer window as they prepared for the Championship.

Phil Parkinson attempted to strengthen his side ahead of their first campaign in the second tier for 43 years, with Wrexham spending £33 million on signings.

This saw Wrexham break their record transfer fee for a signing on several occasions during the summer window.

The Welsh club knew that significant quality was required for the squad to allow them to compete at this level in the Championship to ensure they were not relegated, and so Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds invested heavily.

All five players on the list of Wrexham’s most expensive signings were acquired in the summer of 2025.

Wrexham’s five most expensive signings ever

Dominic Hyam (£2.7 million)

Dominic Hyam has been in fine form for Wrexham since making his debut against Norwich City and has become an integral piece of Phil Parkinson’s side, but this is what you would expect from the fifth most expensive signing ever made by a club.

The Scottish international was a late acquisition in the transfer window from Blackburn Rovers, with the Lancashire club cashing in on the experienced player who had made it clear he wished to leave them as he entered the final year of his contract.

The defender is extremely experienced, having played 214 Championship fixtures in his career at the time of writing, which will be crucial for Wrexham in the 2025/26 campaign.

Lewis O’Brien (£3 million)

Lewis O’Brien was brought to the Racecourse Ground from the City Ground for £3 million this summer, with the player being out in the wilderness at Nottingham Forest.

Since joining Wrexham he has had a seismic impact, with O’Brien equalling his best goalscoring tally in the Championship at the time of writing.

O’Brien brings energy to the midfield along with a quality that is equal to the best players in the division, so he could prove to be an incredibly shrewd piece of business for Phil Parkinson.

Ben Sheaf (£6.5 million)

The signing of Ben Sheaf from Coventry City appeared to be a real coup, as the Welsh club were recruiting a player from a club determined to earn promotion to the Premier League under Frank Lampard.

His start to life in Wrexham has been slow, with Parkinson explaining that Sheaf needs time to find his feet after just returning from injury.

The sizeable investment will not have helped lower expectations, with fans hoping that their third most expensive signing ever finds his feet soon.

Callum Doyle (£7.5 million)

Callum Doyle joined Wrexham after several Championship clubs were vying for the signature of the former Manchester City starlet.

The £7.5 million fee may seem hefty for a player who still has not reached their peak due to being so youthful; however, he has shown in his different loan spells, particularly with Norwich City, that he is a player of immense Championship quality.

Time will tell whether he was worth the investment; however, patience may be perfect to allow Doyle to thrive at Wrexham and help them on their journey to the Premier League.

Nathan Broadhead (£10 million)

Wrexham’s most expensive signing ever is local hero Nathan Broadhead, who joined the club for £10 million from Championship rival Ipswich Town.

The fact they had to acquire him from a rival in the division may help to explain the cost of Broadhead; however, he is a Wales international and an individual with Premier League experience.

Parkinson and Wrexham will not worry too much about his cost should he prove to be a success and help the Red Dragons achieve their aims for the campaign and for their ambitions in the future.
