Since Wrexham were promoted from League One there’s been a lot of chatter about Jamie Vardy potentially making the move to the Racecourse.

Jamie Vardy is splitting opinion among Wrexham fans. There’s a strong number of Wrexham fans who don’t want Vardy to sign this summer but ongoing reports are linking the Dragons with a move for the former England striker.

Vardy is leaving Leicester City this summer but it’s being widely reported that he’ll think twice about playing for another English club, and likewise about playing for a Championship club as that’d mean going up against the Foxes.

Previously, talkSPORT revealed Vardy was considering offers from the MLS. For Wrexham it looks like the Vardy rumours might prove short-lived, but not to worry as a striker who Phil Parkinson wanted in January now looks set to become available.

Patrick Bamford poised for Leeds United exit after promotion to the Premier League

Patrick Bamford is a name that many Wrexham fans will have heard of, and many might remember their team being linked with the Leeds United man in January. Wrexham were reportedly interested in Bamford but he stayed at Elland Road where he now faces an uncertain summer ahead.

After Leeds secured promotion to the Premier League, it looks like the club will make some sweeping changes to the side in a bid to finally stabilise in the top flight. Already it’s being reported that there’s set to be some difficult conversations at the club this summer and Bamford; now 31 years old and without a goal all season, could be on his way out.

But the once-capped former England striker has had to play second-fiddle all season whilst also dealing with a lengthy injury lay off.

Patrick Bamford’s Championship record vs Jamie Vardy’s

Vardy is certainly the more established and proven striker. But he’s also seven years older than Bamford and not looking as though he wants to play for another team in the Championship, so Bamford could be the better option after all.

And although he’s without a goal in 16 Championship games this season, he has proved in the second tier that he’s capable of scoring, and in a team where he’s the main man he could really flourish.

Signing Bamford would require a transfer fee as he remains under contract for another year. It’d no doubt be a big addition to the Wrexham wage bill too. But it’s signings like these that will keep the Dragons in the Championship next season.
