Wrexham will be looking to add further quality to their squad ahead of the 2024/25 League One campaign.

Since the Hollywood takeover, the Red Dragons have been active buyers in transfer windows. Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been keen to add quality and experience to Phil Parkinson’s squad.

Big-name signings Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer and Elliot Lee have played a big part in back-to-back promotions to League One.

Last summer, the club’s pull in the market saw former Premier League stars James McClean and Steven Fletcher arrive at the Racecourse.

Parkinson’s side has also been strong in the free agent market beating clubs from higher divisions with former Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo returning to the club in late June.

Wrexham may look to add further striking options in the current window with interest in Macauley Langstaff and Tom Bradshaw being on the shortlist.

However, former Wrexham striker Kayden Jackson will not be returning to the Racecourse this summer after signing for a Championship club.

Former Wrexham man Kayden Jackson signs for Derby County

Former Wrexham striker Kayden Jackson has completed his free transfer to Championship side Derby County, signing a two-year deal.

The former Wrexham talent had impressed during his younger years in North Wales. Jackson only made 36 appearances for the club scoring four goals, but in his debut season at the Racecourse, he showed his promising talent.

The English forward played for Barnsley, Grimsby Town, and Accrington Stanley before settling at Ipswich Town to be part of the squad that achieved back-to-back promotions to the Premier League. He played 172 games and scored 24 goals.

Jackson will be hoping he can find form at Derby on his return to Championship football.

Has Phil Parkinson missed a trick with Kayden Jackson

After being released by Ipswich, Jackson was an interesting free agent on the EFL market.

Not massively prolific, but quick in attack and capable of causing danger to the opposition’s backline.

Parkinson may have been able to use the striker’s different profile to his advantage. However, Wrexham’s striking department is already loaded with the experience of Fletcher, Palmer, and Mullin. Alongside, further strength-in-depth options Sam Dalby and Jack Marriot.

It will be interesting to see if a striker does arrive at the Racecourse, and what their playing profile will bring. Jackson could have offered the experience of being promoted to the Championship and playing at a higher level, a common transfer trend at the club since the takeover.

Wrexham may be looking at other options but as a free agent, the former Barnsley forward would have been an interesting option for Parkinson to have looked at bringing into his squad.
