I saw one Wrexham ace show why he is a level above League One, Phil Parkinson is lucky to have him

I watched Wrexham clash with Huddersfield Town on Tuesday evening with it clear one of the Welsh outfit’s players is a level above the rest.

Wrexham hosted Huddersfield Town in a League One meeting in midweek and were no doubt full of confidence heading into the tie.

Phil Parkinson watched on as his side secured a rare away victory against Rotherham United this past weekend.

The Welsh outfit were then clear favourites when facing the Terriers after winning their previous nine matches at the Racecourse Ground.

However, when all was said and done, Wrexham drew 0-0 with Huddersfield Town, mustering up just one shot on target across the 90 minutes.

The home side defended well but several of their attacking players were far from the top of their game, including a struggling Elliot Lee.

Yet again though, one Wrexham ace stood out amongst the crowd and was head and shoulders above every other player on the pitch.

Ryan Barnett was standout Wrexham performer vs Huddersfield Town

The man in question was, unsurprisingly, Ryan Barnett, who provided the bulk of Wrexham’s attacking threat down the right flank for much of the 90 minutes.

Barrent was our highest-rated Wrexham player from the 0-0 draw and it is clear the club’s fans shared that view.

After the match, Wrexham fans named Barnett as Man of the Match after he produced one shot on target, one key pass, four completed crosses two tackles and one blocked shot.

The defender has now won three League One Man of the Match awards and he seems to be getting better with each passing game.

Barnett was exceptional against Northampton Town prior to the international break and continues to shine in every fixture he starts.

Even when Wrexham are not at their best, like they were not against Huddersfield, the 25-year-old always delivers with it clear that he is already ready to make the step up to the Championship.

Whether that is with the Red Dragons or another side remains to be seen but his display on Tuesday once again showed Parkinson is lucky to have a player of Barnett’s quality on his books.

Ryan Barnett contract at Wrexham could still attract suitors

Wrexham fans will have been relieved recently when it was revealed that  Barnett is under contract until 2026 and not 2025 as first feared.

But while the club will not lose him for free in the summer, he will still have just 12 months left on his deal come the end of 2024/25.

While not confirmed, Championship clubs are no doubt keeping an eye on the Englishman as he continues to dominate in the third tier.

And unless he is signed to a fresh contract in the coming months, some sides may be eager to try and poach the wing-back for a reduced fee next year.

For now, though, Wrexham should appreciate what they have and continue enjoying the sensational displays of Barnett going forward.
