Phil Parkinson will surely be concerned by Wrexham star who lost 89% of duels vs Huddersfield Town

Phil Parkinson watched his Wrexham side struggle to create little of note during their meeting with Huddersfield Town.

The hectic winter period is now closing in, with Wrexham set for a busy period that sees a run of five games in just a few weeks.

Wrexham beat Rotherham United 1-0 last time out, ending their winless run when playing away from the Racecourse Ground.

Back on home soil on Tuesday, the Red Dragons were expected to pick up another three points against Huddersfield Town.

Had they done so, Wrexham would have matched a 91-year-old record, last winning 10 or more home games in a row all the way back in 1933.

However, when all was said and done in Wales, Phil Parkinson will have largely been left disappointed by what he saw from his side on the night.

It was a frustrating night for the recently promoted side but one player in particular really struggled to offer anything of note.

Elliot Lee was poor for Wrexham vs Huddersfield Town

While Wrexham dominated much of the game and had the better of the limited chances, very few players stoodout.

Ryan Barnett was the standout performer vs Huddersfield Town but even he could not do enough to find an opener on the night.

One player who should have done a lot more on the attacking front was attacking midfielder, Elliott Lee.

Lee is the club’s most creative player the majority of the time but his showing against Huddersfield was pretty underwhelming.

As per Sofascore, Lee failed to have a single shot on or off target, did not attempt a single dribble, made zero key passes, lost possession 11 times, won just one of his nine duels and had an 85 percent passing accuracy.

Why Phil Parkinson will be worried about Elliot Lee

Lee’s display is now surely going to concern the Wrexham manager, who has so often relied on the 29-year-old to provide much of his side’s creative output.

Huddersfield had a clear gameplan again Wrexham, being more than willing to sit deep and try and play for a point.

It was the Welsh outfit’s job to take the game to them and try and break them down, which they obviously failed to do, in no small part due to Lee’s underwhelming display.

A lot of sides are going to set up in a similar way against Wrexham and if Lee is not on top form, Parkinson currently does not have any other viable options to step up in his absence.

Ollie Rathbone came off the bench in the second half but he is better suited to a deeper midfield role and offers nowhere near the attacking threat of Lee.

In turn, the Wrexham boss will no doubt be hopeful it was simply a one-off from the midfielder and that he will be back to his best this weekend.
