I saw Wrexham star blow his chance to impress Phil Parkinson vs Harrogate Town, he’s out of time

Wrexham were far from their best when they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Harrogate Town over the weekend.

Phil Parkinson selected a strong starting line-up when his side travelled to Yorkshire for the first-round FA Cup meeting.

However, the Wrexham manager continued his poor record against Harrogate Town, with his side falling to a 1-0 defeat.

A number of the Red Dragons players underperformed over the weekend, with Paul Mullin drawing the ire of Wrexham fans.

The striker missed a plethora of chances in the opening 15 minutes, at least two of which were good enough to give his side the lead.

Elsewhere, former player and BBC pundit Kevin Ratcliffe told Parkinson he needs something different to Ollie Rathbone.

Rathbone was one of just two fringe players to be given a chance on Sunday alongside wing-back Sebastian Revan.

Sebastian Revan not good enough for Wrexham vs Harrogate Town

After signing from Aston Villa over the summer, the defender has struggled to stake a claim for a regular starting berth.

Parkinson called Revan ‘dangerous’ after he was handed his first League One start for the club back in August against Bolton Wanderers.

But the 21-year-old has been kept out of the eleven by both Ryan Barnett and James McClean this term, only starting in the defeat to Stevenage last month.

As a result, Sunday’s FA Cup meeting with Harrogate presented Revan with a great chance to prove to Parkinson he should be earning more minutes in the league.

However, I saw the Englishman’s display against the League Two outfit and it is fair to say he did not do anywhere near enough to impress his boss.

Phil Parkinson will drop Sebastian Revan when Wrexham face Mansfield Town

Revan was ok defensively, though he was not tested too much in that regard, while his attacking threat was poor.

Parkinson requires his wing-backs to bomb forward and provide a lot of attacking support with whipped cross into the front two.

However, Revan struggled to link up with Mullin and Ollie Palmer on the day and was eventually hooked after just 59 minutes.

In comparison, McLean was praised for his attacking output when he replaced Revan for the latter stages of the tie.

Wrexham are now set to face off with Mansfield Town in a huge League One clash this weekend and it is fair to assume Parkinson will once more axe Revan and start the former Sunderland defender at left-wing-back.
