Matty James has proven to be a superb addition to the Wrexham squad in the 2024/25 season.
Wrexham lost key midfielder George Evans to injury in October, leaving Phil Parkinson light of options in the centre of the park.
This saw the Red Dragons utilise the free-agent market to great effect, signing Matty James after his exit from Bristol City earlier in the year.
Phil Parkinson labelled James ‘outstanding’ last month and he’s more than lived up to that praise during the club’s latest run of fixtures.
Despite only being brought in as backup, the 33-year-old is now a regular starter at the Racecourse Ground.
He has been in from the off in the club’s last six matches and his form has seen Wrexham sign James to a new contract that will now keep him in Wales until the end of 2024/25.

How Matty James can help Paul Mullin at Wrexham
James earned praise from Wrexham fans following his superb assist for Elliot Lee versus Bristol Rovers over the weekend.
It was the Englishman’s first assist since signing but as per Leader Live, he is now looking to add more of them to his game.
He said: “It’s something I want to try and do as often as I can [assist].
“It just seemed to open up. I seen it quite early and it was a great finish by Elliot so I’m really pleased with that.
“To get an assist was great but we wanted the three points and I’m gutted we didn’t get that.”
It was a truly exceptional through-ball from the former Manchester United man and if he’s able to continue producing passes to that level, Paul Mullin’s goal drought may finally come to an end after just one in 19.
Lee is injured and will almost certainly miss the Blackpool meeting on Boxing Day. This means Mullin should start up front and if he can begin to build a connection with James similar to Lee, the goals will surely start to fly in.

Matty James on new Wrexham contract
In the same interview, James spoke out about signing his new deal with the Red Dragons last week.
The midfielder’s contract was due to expire at the end of this month but he is more than deserving of his six-month extension.
He said: “I’m over the moon to sign for a longer time now. That was always my motivation, it was always my aim.
“It gives me some security, I can settle down and just enjoy playing football for his great club.
“Having a few months away from the game, it kind of put football into perspective and how much I wanted to play.
“Football changes quickly and if someone was willing to give me the opportunity, I had no doubt that I was going to be able to prove whoever did that right, and I’ve done that, but I don’t want to stop there.”
Jon Dadi Bodvarsson was brought to the club at the same time as James but with the striker being left out of Wrexham’s last five League One matchday squads, it seems unlikely his deal will be extended.
