Ollie Palmer leaving Wrexham to complete Sheffield Wednesday transfer surely won’t happen for one reason

Ollie Palmer has been linked with plenty of clubs this summer, but a move to Sheffield Wednesday seems unlikely.

With the summer transfer window deadline fast approaching, it seems inevitable that the player will be moved on.

Ollie Palmer was left out by Phil Parkinson once again versus Preston North End and continues to garner interest from several teams.

The Wrexham Insider shared earlier this summer that Palmer has been offered to multiple clubs, with AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons among those to have looked at the player.

A transfer to Dorking Wanderers for the Wrexham striker has been dismissed outright this week.

But there has been some suggestion that Sheffield Wednesday are among the sides looking at the 33-year-old.

Why Ollie Palmer won’t join Sheffield Wednesday

FLW named the Owls as one of five teams eyeing the Wrexham ace in the final week of the window.

Wednesday, who have a threadbare squad, are able to make some signings now after seeing their embargoes lifted by the EFL.

They still have a wage cap in place, but that is not the reason, at least not the main one, why Palmer surely won’t join them.

Instead, it simply comes down to location and the centre-forward’s preference on where he wants to play.

Previously at Wimbledon, Palmer has kept his family in the south of England and has already spoken about his ideal club being located there.

He said in Season Two Episode 13 of Welcome to Wrexham: “I think with me I’m not really spending quality time with my children apart from on a Sunday.

“It has been hard for me because I’ve been away from my family, if we could move Wrexham down to London that would be an ideal scenario but that’s unfortunately impossible.

“So just got to keep going, making it work how we are and we’ve kind of found a bit of a middle ground now how I travel up, staying up here and then getting home at the right times.”

Sheffield is, obviously, nowhere near London (around 168 miles away), so it would be pretty strange to see Palmer decide to move to Yorkshire this summer.

Ollie Palmer Wrexham goal record

After missing out against Preston, it looks as though the forward has already played his final game for the club.

Palmer has scored 46 goals for Wrexham since joining in the 2022 winter transfer window.

While it’s not enough to put him in their all-time top-10 goalscorers list, he does sit 38th in the overall ranking.

His long-time partner, Paul Mullin, sits 7th on the list with 110 goals scored.
