Wrexham forward Ollie Palmer will be concerned about his game time ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season, and he will be hoping that Phil Parkinson keeps to what he said back in 2022.

Wrexham have added plenty of Championship talent to their ranks this season as the club looks to prepare for the challenge of the English second tier.

Phil Parkinson made it clear that he demanded striker signings this summer, and Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds have backed the Wrexham boss with several top stars.

Josh Windass has joined Wrexham, whilst Ryan Hardie has also arrived from Plymouth Argyle. They won’t stop there, however, as Wrexham are also keen to sign Kieffer Moore from fellow Championship side Sheffield United.

Many Red Dragons fans are satisfied with the transfer business undertaken by Reynolds and Mac; however, it has left a number of players surplus to requirements.

For example, Ollie Palmer will be uncertain on how much game time he will receive this season, although he will likely cling to hope after what Parkinson previously said in 2022.

What Phil Parkinson said in 2022 about game time

Phil Parkinson has often used a large squad whilst at Wrexham, particularly because of the surge in recruitment that the Red Dragons undergo every season.

Unfortunately, this usually leaves a selection of players outside of the picture at Wrexham, and Ollie Palmer is likely to be one of those in the upcoming season.

Rather than losing hope in this situation, Parkinson may have offered assurance to Palmer, as he did in 2022.

“There is always going to be disappointment when players aren’t selected but standards in training have got to remain, and we expect that,” said Parkinson when speaking to Leader Live back in 2022.

“If the standards are high, when people get their opportunity, they are ready to take it.

“I said to the lads that this is a squad, not an 11.

“When we change the team around, we have got decent players to come in and if you are not in the team, you have just got to put your disappointment to one side and do your talking when you get on the pitch and on the training ground.”

Ollie Palmer may lose hope following 2024/25 Paul Mullin situation

Ollie Palmer’s game time last season was rather limited, especially after the January transfer window, which saw Wrexham bring in Sam Smith from Reading. It was also the case with Paul Mullin, who often struggled to make Phil Parkinson’s squad.

As we all know, Wrexham boss Parkinson made it clear that Paul Mullin was not part of his plans, and as a result, he had a loan to Wigan Athletic sanctioned.

Palmer could continue to have his game time stripped, or alternatively, be handed the opportunity to depart Wrexham. Because of the striker’s love for the club, both avenues would be far from ideal for Palmer, who may very well have to remind Parkinson about what he said about the importance of a squad before a decision is made on him.
