Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer hold an incredible three-year record that proves how crucial they still are for Wrexham

Both Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer have firmly established themselves in Wrexham folklore, and the pair have just achieved yet another incredible record for the club.

Wrexham’s rise through the Football League has been a team effort, of course, but there is no denying that, without the goals of Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer, it wouldn’t have been possible.

The attacking duo have formed quite the partnership over the years, and their attacking output speaks for itself.

But, even away from their goalscoring feats, the pair have proven to be talismanic for Phil Parkinson’s side.

Wrexham are unbeaten at home in three years when Mullin and Palmer start together

Wrexham fans hope Paul Mullin’s poor form is behind him now, with the formerly prolific striker only managing two goals so far this season.

That bad run has seen the 30-year-old lose his starting spot in the Wrexham squad of late, but he was back in the first XI for the visit of Wigan Athletic at the weekend, alongside his regular partner, Palmer.

While the pair found it a frustrating afternoon in front of goal, thanks to the late winner from Steven Fletcher, an unfathomable Wrexham record was achieved at the Racecourse Ground.

As per WonderboyWXM on Twitter/X, the fact that Wrexham avoided defeat after starting both Mullin and Palmer means the club has now gone three years without losing at home when the two strikers have been in the starting lineup.

Of course, neither player had a direct and/or significant impact on the result against Wigan, but clearly there is something about the dynamic of the team when they’re on the pitch.

Given both Mullin and Palmer’s history with the club, it would not be beyond the realms of possibility to imagine that the rest of the team feel lifted and have an extra level of belief when they see the pair starting up front.

Both players have proven time and time again that they can change a game, and the impact of that belief cannot be understated.

The Mullin and Palmer era is coming to an end, but they still have something to offer

With Mullin now 30-years-old, and Palmer even older at 32, we cannot pretend that the pair are not approaching the end of their careers, or at least will be starting to wind down their prolificacy at Wrexham in the next year or two.

There has already been plenty of talk of a Paul Mullin replacement being needed. Palmer, meanwhile, appears to have dealt with the jump to League One a little better, but time is not on his side.

Still, whether it be their goalscoring, their link-up play with teammates, or their mystical presence helping Wrexham avoid defeats at home, the two strikers are obviously still very important to the club.

It will be a sad day when either of these players moves on. That day is coming, whether we like it or not, but for now, let’s just hope they can help Wrexham go unbeaten in 2025, too.
