Wrexham have played in one or two promotion clashes before in recent history.
Phil Parkinson’s side head into the League One showdown with Charlton Athletic full of confidence after a fantastic performance in their 2-1 win over Blackpool.
Nathan Jones has fired a dig at Wrexham by calling the club a ‘circus’ and Jobi McAnuff believes momentum is with Charlton in the fight for promotion.
However, Wrexham have seen the mind games and the tension all before, they famously defeated Notts County 3-2 at the Racecourse Ground with Ben Foster the hero in that National League promotion decider and Parkinson can repeat his words from that day once again.

Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham message after Notts County victory
Speaking in the dressing room after the game, Parkinson’s message to his players was clear after the 3-2 win over Notts County.
‘Welcome to Wrexham’ season 2 episode 12 captured the moment the manager addressed his player and the same message can be repeated ahead of the upcoming clash with Charlton.
Parkinson stated: “We know we haven’t won anything yet don’t we, we’ve got to make sure we keep a lid on it because it’s great to win but we’ve done f— all yet, this is just a step in the right direction.”
The Red Dragons boss went on to tell his players how proud he was of the performance over Notts County but then highlighted a strength of the Wrexham squad that will be needed in the final two games.
Parkinson explained: “That’s called turning up. Turning up when the pressure is on in the biggest non-league game in history and you’ve turned up and f—–g produced and that means a lot let me tell you.”
Wrexham produce in ‘pressure’ moments, they can do it again
Parkinson echoed Rob McElhenney’s message to Wrexham fans that the ground needs to be ‘bouncing’ against Charlton and the players have shown that they know how to step up in big games.
Notts County was one example but the Red Dragons also produced a 6-0 win over Forest Green Rovers in April 2024 to secure promotion from League Two.

There was a huge amount of pressure on the side going into the Blackpool game following a 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers but goals from James McClean and Ollie Rathbone secured a vital three points.
The noise can come from one side of the promotion race but Parkinson will be telling his players to focus on themselves and go about their business quietly and effectively.
