Wrexham’s fixtures are coming thick and fast as the promotion race is beginning to simmer entering the final few months of the season.

Steven Fletcher’s winner off the bench secured a vital three points in the 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town as Phil Parkinson praised his side’s concentration during the match.

Attentions now turn to Rotherham at the Racecourse Ground and Wrexham will be looking to prevent an unwanted record at home, which stretches back to January.

Parkinson does have some selection issues heading into the game with the long term injury of Andy Cannon and George Dobson limped off in the previous game. Midfield has been an issue for Wrexham for a while but they have the man to solve their worries.

Harry Ashfield should start for Wrexham against Rotherham United

With the injuries to Cannon and Dobson, Parkinson will be sure to start Matty James alongside the impressive Ollie Rathbone in midfield against Rotherham United.

However, there is still one place in the centre of the park that needs filling and the Red Dragons have struggled to provide service to their strikers in recent months, George Evans may not be the answer to that problem.

Parkinson hinted Harry Ashfield could be used in midfield after he started the EFL Trophy semi final in the position and Ashfield has all of the qualities that Wrexham need in the role.

He works hard, is physically imposing and has an attacking mindset that the Red Dragons have been missing from the central midfield area, Parkinson has labelled Ashfield a ‘quality footballer.’

Ashfield a different option to Elliot Lee in Wrexham’s midfield

Elliot Lee would be another candidate to come in to midfield and he actually replaced the injured Dobson against Huddersfield Town.

Lee struggled to impose himself on the game however, and having only returned from a recent injury following a nasty road traffic accident, Ashfield’s physicality may be the way to go for Parkinson.

Parkinson declared Rotherham were ‘physical’ in their previous meeting and the same can be expected from Steve Evans’s side in the fixture at the Racecourse Ground.

Paul Mullin’s early strike secured a 1-0 win in the return fixture and Wrexham would take another narrow victory again.
