Phil Parkinson made bizarre Wrexham decision in QPR defeat, unused substitute will surely be stunned

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson surprisingly left one new signing on the bench despite trailing QPR, denying him his Red Dragons’ debut as a result.

Wrexham have suffered yet another home defeat in the Championship after losing 3-1 to QPR.

It was a game with very few positives as Wrexham struggled in the final third, with Ryan Hardie failing to make an impact.

Wrexham also faced issues defensively, leading to three goals being shipped in rather alarming fashion.

While Wrexham were chasing the game, after Kieffer Moore made it 2-1, Parkinson failed to close the gap, meaning that one decision, in hindsight, has every reason to be scrutinised.

Phil Parkinson should be questioned after leaving Issa Kabore on the bench

There was plenty of optimism in the air at the Racecourse Ground as several new signings would get their opportunity, some of whom were waiting for their debut for the Red Dragons.

One blockbuster signing who was awaiting his opportunity to make his debut was Issa Kabore, who joined Wrexham on deadline day from Man City on loan.

While there were some concerns over Kabore’s fitness, having played very little football last season, he had managed 180 minutes for Burkina Faso during the international break, meaning that he was capable of a substitute appearance, at least.

However, Kabore was left surplus to requirements by Phil Parkinson, despite Ryan Longman struggling at times, and with Wrexham needing a fresh pair of legs on the right flank.

Pressure is beginning to mount on Phil Parkinson

Questions will be asked of Phil Parkinson and his side, who sit 21st in the Championship after their difficult start to the 2025/26 season.

The Red Dragons have failed to see their momentum carry over from previous seasons, and with relegation feeling like a possibility, even at this early stage of the campaign, many will turn to Parkinson for answers.

There have been a number of questionable decisions made regarding personnel, aside from Issa Kabore, in recent games.

To put it bluntly, Wrexham will not be sustainable in the Championship if they defend like they did against QPR.

The defensive display against the R’s was not a one-off, as we saw it hamper Wrexham in the defeat to Southampton and the draw against Sheffield Wednesday, notably.
