Phil Parkinson must be glad Wrexham missed out on one summer striker target after zero goals in seven

Wrexham were linked with a host of players in the summer of 2024, some of which have fared better than others in the current season.

One area the Red Dragons had a tough time strengthening in the last transfer window was centre-forward.

Phil Parkinson tried to sign a number of names before eventually bringing in Modou Faal from West Bromwich Albion for a club-record fee of £590,000.

Wrexham fans all made the same Faal point after his Crewe display earlier this week, with the summer addition still yet to find his feet in Wales.

Before Faal’s arrival in late August, several other striker targets were tipped to make the move to the Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham wanted to sign Will Lankshear from Tottenham Hotspur on loan but the teenager has remained in North London for the first half of 2024/25.

Lankshear has failed to have any meaningful impact at Spurs this term but another summer target is faring even worse despite playing regularly.

Wrexham transfer target Bailey Cadamarteri has been poor for Lincoln City

In early August, reports emerged that claimed Wrexham were front runners to sign Bailey Cadamarteri on loan from Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday.

However, Lincoln City beat the Red Dragons to Cadamarteri, securing his services on loan for the 2024/25 season.

Missing out on a Championship-level forward is not ideal, but the fact a League One rival signed him instead made it an even bigger blow.

However, though it seemed like a loss at the time, Parkinson should be glad that transfer never came to pass.

The 19-year-old has played 16 League One games for Lincoln this season, scoring three goals.

That return in and of itself is not great, and it looks even worse when you realise Cadamarteri has now failed to score in his last seven league appearances, one of which came in a 1-0 defeat to Wrexham.

Parkinson has striking problems of his own this season, which likely would have been made even worse had they beat Lincoln to the Sheffield Wednesday youngster.

Wrexham want to sign another striker

Though a new number nine was eventually signed in the summer, the Welsh side want to sign another striker in the upcoming transfer window.

Wrexham want Ethan Wheatley from Manchester United but a deal could prove tough to get over the line.

The Red Devils are yet to make a decision on the teenager’s future, while another League One rival are also interested.

Wrexham may have been given a boost in the Wheatley transfer battle after what Stockport County just did though.

Stockport are eyeing the youngster as well but they have completed the signing of another number nine this week, suggesting their interest in the Man Utd gem could have cooled off now.
