Wrexham are preparing for yet another huge fixture as the promotion run in gets well and truly underway.

Wrexham are level on points with Wycombe Wanderers in the final automatic promotion place but can move into second place in League One with a win over Stockport at the Racecourse Ground.

Wycombe have a tougher run in on paper and do not play in the next round of fixtures leaving an opportunity for Phil Parkinson’s side to pile on some pressure.

Humphrey Ker revealed the ‘needle’ between Wrexham and Stockport and having battled since their time in the National League, the Red Dragons know they are in for another tough encounter.

Phil Parkinson should start ‘key’ player for Wrexham against Stockport

Wrexham fans are calling for Jay Rodriguez to be dropped after yet another ineffective performance in the 1-0 win over Wycombe last time out.

Parkinson revealed Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer are working hard in order to return to the matchday squad and the manager would be wise to replace Rodriguez with Palmer for the clash with Stockport.

As per BBC Sport, Parkinson was full of praise for Palmer upon him signing a new contract at the club in October 2024 but has exiled the striker from all of the last nine league games.

Parkinson stated: “I’m pleased for Ollie to get his new deal, he’s earned it. He’s had a good start to the season. He’s played a key role in the club’s success and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with him.”

Ollie Palmer would be perfect partner for Sam Smith in Wrexham’s attack

Palmer had an excellent start to the season and was heavily involved in a lot of good work that Wrexham did in building momentum and their points tally.

He made 27 appearances before his absence and contributed three goals and two assists, as well as providing a focal point for Parkinson’s direct style of play.

Sam Smith has cut an isolated figure in his partnership with Rodriguez as the former England international has been dropping deeper and deeper with each passing match.

Palmer would provide Smith a platform to work off and he has already shown he can thrive off being close to his strike partner with his winning goal against Rotherham.

Having scored against Stockport on the last day of last season and having been at the club for over three years, Palmer will also have that added hunger to get one over on their rivals in the upcoming clash.
