Wrexham’s desire to add midfielders to their squad could see the future of one popular player debated, something that wouldn’t go down well with the fans.
Ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season, Wrexham are looking to add to their ranks, having noted several free agents as transfer targets.
Notably, Wrexham have been linked to Tottenham’s Ben Davies – a move that would show the ambition of the Dragons, whilst Craig Dawson has also been sounded out as an option for Phil Parkinson.
Aside from defenders, there is a clear emphasis on bringing midfielders into the side this summer. Tom Lawrence has been targeted by Wrexham, as well as Fulham’s Tom Cairney.
There is no doubt that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney may need to be ruthless in letting players go this summer, but they must not go one step too far and replace one midfielder who has been key for Wrexham.

Wrexham must not replace Elliot Lee in summer transfer window
Since arriving from Championship side Luton Town in the 2022/23 season, Wrexham midfielder Elliot Lee has been a crucial component in Parkinson’s side.
Lee’s three seasons at the Racecourse Ground have all ended in promotion, and he just seems to get better as each season goes on. After notching 28 goals in League Two and National League, it was expected that he would not play as prominent a role this season, but eight goals in the league suggest otherwise.
Even at Championship level, Lee will prove to be an incredible option for Parkinson – he may not start week in week out, but should certainly still be part of his plans.
Lee is incredibly popular amongst Wrexham supporters, and the potential of him departing the Racecourse Ground wouldn’t go down well.

Elliot Lee’s instrumental impact has been overshadowed by Paul Mullin
There is no doubt that the heroes of the club in recent years have been showcased heavily on Welcome To Wrexham, with Paul Mullin undoubtedly being the key man since the first season.
Mullin’s impact at the Racecourse Ground has been immense, but that has almost overshadowed how much Elliot Lee has achieved at Wrexham.
The three previous seasons have seen Mullin score 64, an unbelievable amount for a striker, but, in a slightly deeper position, Lee’s 36 goals are equally as admirable. Whilst Lee may not be one of the main focal points in attack next season, his sale should not be sanctioned.
