Wrexham need a big summer in the transfer market.

Wrexham’s owners have promised to be ‘aggressive’ in the market as they look to provide Phil Parkinson with the necessary firepower for the Championship challenge.

Players such as Steven Fletcher and Mark Howard have already departed the club as Wrexham have been told they need six to nine signings in order to have a competitive squad for next campaign.

Wrexham’s reported transfer budget is £25m and Wrexham Insider has highlighted six players the club could sign within that reported kitty with the help of Transfermarkt for estimated player values.

Six players Wrexham should sign this summer amid £25m budget

Louie Barry

Louie Barry has tormented Wrexham in recent seasons with his exploits at rivals Stockport County, therefore the club know first hand the talent he possesses.

Barry has just ended his loan spell at Hull City and returned to parent club Aston Villa and with his current market value at £1.7m, the Red Dragons should be doing everything to explore a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old has the potential to sparkle in the Championship and could play up top alongside Sam Smith or just behind in the number ten role as he looks to get on the ball and create magic.

More than likely, the club would be looking at a figure upward of £5m to land Barry but with Villa’s reported PSR troubles, a market opportunity is there for Wrexham to grasp.

Alfie Doughty

Alfie Doughty was one of Luton’s best players during their Premier League campaign and was once again a key man this season despite the club’s second successive relegation.

Doughty is valued at around £5.5m and given his experience at a higher level and only being 25 years of age, that would represent money well spent for Reynolds and McElhenney.

With an incredible engine and work rate, Doughty has shown he is a reliable figure on the left flank and would provide defensive stability and an excellent delivery into the box from wide areas.

Joe Rothwell

Joe Rothwell epitomises what is needed in the second tier of English football, tenacity and desire sprinkled with quality and composure.

The 30-year-old has spent the season on loan at Leeds and played a huge part in the club earning promotion to the Premier League.

Whether Leeds will see Rothwell as part of their Premier League journey remains in doubt and Wrexham should be all over adding the midfielder to their ranks.

Currently valued at £1.5m, Rothwell would add energy but more experience to blend with the likes of Matty James and Ollie Rathbone in the centre of the park.

Jamie Donley

Wrexham have been urged to sign Jamie Donley and after his season on loan with Leyton Orient in League One, it is hard to argue against that desire.

Donley scored the winning goal during Orient’s 2-1 victory at the Racecourse Ground earlier this season and with fellow Championship rivals West Brom interested, the Red Dragons may need to act fast.

Wrexham have been crying out for a number ten to increase service into their strikers and Donley would be the perfect fit with years to develop further at only 20 years of age.

His current market value stands at £1.5m however, it is believed that his parent club Tottenham Hotspur would be looking for a slightly higher figure given he is a home-grown talent.

Maksym Talovierov

Wrexham are interested in Maksym Talovierov this summer after the Ukrainian international impressed with his displays for Plymouth Argyle.

The defender scored against Manchester City during their FA Cup run but it was his aggressive, no-nonsense defending that really caught the eye.

Physically imposing, Talovierov would be a wonderful addition to Parkinson’s excellent defensive options that already boast the likes of Max Cleworth and Lewis Brunt.

Although Talovierov has played just 11 times in the Championship so far, he has taken to the league seamlessly and Wrexham can now provide the opportunity to stay in the division with a £1.7m move.

Richard Kone

The beauty of the Wrexham story is that nothing seems impossible. We are all waiting in anticipation for that statement Wrexham signing that causes shockwaves through football – enter Richard Kone.

It is believed it would take an offer of well above £10m to tempt Wycombe into selling their prized asset but once again the Red Dragons can offer the opportunity to progress his career at a higher level.

Kone scored 18 goals in League One this season and terrified defences with his pace and power, alongside a real composure in front of goal.

Dare to dream Wrexham fans? This signing would be show that ‘aggressive’ intent the owners discussed and help to give the club the firepower needed to compete at the very top of the division.
