Wrexham have a growing popularity in the USA, and soon enough, we could see the Dragons scouring the MLS for some new players.

The MLS has grown massively over the last decade or so. It’s now a league that produces really exciting young players and also one that attracts some of the world’s top footballers, with Lionel Messi currently playing stateside.

Meanwhile, Wrexham have been promoted to the Championship under owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, adding a third-straight promotion to their name during this unbelievable rise.

Since the Hollywood pair took over in 2021, Wrexham have become hugely popular in the USA: not only because of the club’s celebrity owners but because of the Welcome to Wrexham series too.

The 2025 MLS season is currently underway and finishes towards the end of the year. At the same time, there will be a number of MLS players out of a contract, and here are three who Wrexham could realistically make a move for…

Martin Ojeda

Orlando City attacker Martin Ojeda could quickly become hot property as he nears the end of his contract, and as his prolific form in the MLS continues.

The 26-year-old scored five and six goals in his previous two MLS seasons respectively, but already has eight in 15 games this season, as well as four assists.

A left winger, this could be a really exciting potential avenue for Wrexham to explore as the year goes on: he’s coming into his prime years now and a chance to play in Europe, and in a really competitive and fast-paced Championship could be exactly what he needs to take the next step.

Jack McGlynn

Houston Dynamo central midfielder Jack McGlynn is another name who could attract a lot of suitors as the year goes on, and as his Dynamo contract keeps on creeping towards its end.

For Parkinson, midfield is clearly an area he’s looking at right now with Wrexham linked with a number of midfielders ahead of the summer transfer window, and if he can’t get all he wants this summer then January could see him sign one or two.

By then, McGlynn would be out of contract – the 21-year-old has two goals and five assists in 14 MLS games so far this season, having established himself as a real star in the making.

Christian Benteke

Parkinson loves an experienced player, and an experienced striker too. This summer, Steven Fletcher is leaving Wrexham and it certainly leaves a void in the attack, which could potentially be filled by former Liverpool hitman Christian Benteke later in the year.

Now 34, Benteke boasts a record of 86 goals in 280 Premier League games, as well as 46 in 86 for current club D.C. United, where his contract is set to expire at the end of 2025.

Still in form, Benteke could well fancy one last hurrah in English football, and Hollywood club Wrexham could be the perfect fit for the former Belgian international.
