Wrexham can now sign 48-cap Wales star after Wembley misery, pundit thinks it’s ‘guaranteed to be happening’

Wrexham could be about to add some Welsh quality to their ranks this summer, in preparation for what will be a very testing 2025/26 season in the Championship.

Cardiff City have been relegated from the Championship ahead of the 2025/26 season, whilst Wrexham replace them to keep two Welsh clubs in the second tier of English football.

It means the Dragons will play Swansea City for the first time since 2023 when the two Welsh rivals played out a goalless draw in the old Division Three.

And Phil Parkinson’s side could yet hand the Swans a transfer blow this summer by signing one of their key players on a free transfer: Harry Darling is linked with Wrexham, with his Swansea contract set to expire in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere, Wrexham have been urged to sign Ben Davies. The Welsh legend is out of contract at Spurs this summer and he could yet be a very shrewd and exciting capture for the Dragons.

An equally-exciting deal could be one for Kieffer Moore. The 48-cap Wales striker has just missed out on promotion to the Premier League with Sheffield United.

Kieffer Moore misses out on promotion after being tipped to join Wrexham

Speaking recently, EFL pundit Ryan Dilks suggested that Moore is guaranteed to join Wrexham this summer. It comes after a rather mixed season for the 32-year-old who scored just six times in 30 Championship games for the Blades, who eventually finished in 3rd place of the table.

Dilks explained: “I think Kieffer Moore just seems like the most obvious signing of the entire summer. He’s not actually out of contract this coming summer. But that [Moore to Wrexham] just makes a lot of sense for me. So that’s the one out of all these players I think is guaranteed to be happening.”

Moore remains under contract until the summer of 2027. But he could be part of a summer clearout at Bramall Lane with a reset likely to take place following their poor finish to the 2024/25 season, and their recent play-off final defeat at the hands of Sunderland.

Chris Wilder asked about potential Sheffield United player departures

Moore being one of the older players in the side and likely one of the higher-earners could make him a prime candidate to be sold this summer, especially considering his rather tame season in front of goal.

But one club’s trash could be another’s treasure. In a more physical Wrexham side with plenty of balls forward and balls into the box, Moore could be someone who flourishes playing under Parkinson, and a move into Wales could be an emotional one for him too.

Speaking to The Star after the play-off final, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder said about potential player sales this summer: “But as you can imagine, I’ve not thought about futures – personally, or from a player point of view – being an hour and a half after an incredibly low point of everybody’s careers, really.”

Either way, the Blades missing out on promotion certainly shapes them up for a turnover this summer, and it could leave Moore free to move to the Racecourse should the Dragons pursue a move.
