Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney could target three top EFL strikers amid the realisation that Paul Mullin may have to be replaced.

Recent reports suggest that Wrexham are ready to part with Paul Mullin, with Wigan Athletic supposedly keen on the striker.

Whilst it doesn’t come as a surprise that Paul Mullin has slid down the pecking order at the Racecourse Ground, especially after promotion to the Championship, it doesn’t undermine any of the Liverpudlian’s incredible achievements at the club.

Back in April 2024, Mullin stated that his ambitions were to ‘play at the highest level possible’, as well as speaking about dreams of playing for Wales, but such a move to Wigan would likely quash that.

Nonetheless, it is clear that Wrexham owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are wanting to look forward in their pursuit for new players following promotion; here are three they could easily target.

Wrexham could snap up relegated star Carlton Morris

Whilst Mullin hasn’t played a significant role this season, Reynolds and McElhenney will still no doubt look to replace him with goalscoring firepower, and one route they could go down is with Carlton Morris.

The Luton Town striker suffered relegation this season to League One, a season after dropping from the Premier League. Despite the Hatters’ poor form this campaign, he still bagged eight Championship goals.

Providing which other strikers Wrexham bring in, Morris would certainly be a fine addition; the 29-year-old would guarantee goals at Championship level, and would be likely to move after relegation.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney could take a chance on Kelechi Iheanacho

One player who Wrexham could potentially gamble on in the 2025/26 season is Kelechi Iheanacho, a former Man City striker who previously scored 21 goals in 64 games for the Cityzens, whilst also bagging 61 for Leicester City.

Unfortunately, Iheanacho’s career has somewhat halted since he left Leicester City, having undergone a difficult spell at Sevilla, where his game time was significantly limited.

With the hopes of rejuvenating his career, Iheanacho went on loan to Middlesbrough, also in the Championship, for the back-end of last season, but he only notched one goal during his spell.

He may not be at the peak of his powers right now, but Iheanacho could still prove to be a fine addition if he can refind his form.

League One bagsman Richard Kone could be on Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s list

Thirdly, Wrexham could target a striker in League One, with Richard Kone undoubtedly a fine option to bring in after promotion to the Championship.

Having bagged 18 League One goals, including one on the opening day of the season against Wrexham, Kone helped Wycombe to the play-offs, but unfortunately missed out after losing to Charlton Athletic in the semi-finals.

If Wrexham were to target Kone, they can expect to have plenty of competition in signing the youngster; his goalscoring tally this season has certainly piqued the interest of many clubs at Championship level.
