Three ways Phil Parkinson can deal with crucial Wrexham ‘blow’, Ollie Palmer could become the saviour

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson will need to conjure up ways to limit the loss of Josh Windass following his injury.

Wrexham were handed a defeat by West Brom in their first Championship appearance at the Racecourse Ground.

The Red Dragons once again showed plenty of promise, but were seen off by a West Brom side with plenty of quality.

Phil Parkinson confirmed his frustration at Wrexham’s defensive issues, whilst also touching on the injury sustained by Josh Windass in the defeat, suggesting that it is set to be a ‘blow’ for his side.

The loss of Windass, no matter how long for, could significantly impact Wrexham’s abilities in the final third, and the Red Dragons boss will need to conjure up some ideas on how to cope without the talisman.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson may need to turn to Ollie Palmer

Following the injury sustained by Josh Windass, it may mean that Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson could re-evaluate his attacking options.

This could see Ollie Palmer reconsidered for a prominent role in the Wrexham squad after his brilliant cameo vs Hull City in the EFL Cup, where he scored two goals to take the game to penalties.

Wrexham fans clearly want Palmer to stick around at the club, and his brace against the Tigers shows that he can still play a role for Wrexham, whether it is in the starting side or as an impact substitute.

Nathan Broadhead may have to replicate Josh Windass’ talents

When Josh Windass picked up his untimely injury against West Brom, Phil Parkinson turned to Wrexham record signing Nathan Broadhead to replace the forward.

Whilst Broadhead somewhat struggled on his Red Dragons debut, he has shown for both Ipswich Town and Wales in his career to be a huge threat, particularly at Championship level.

After another week settling into the squad, Broadhead could offer an improved performance, especially with the next game coming against a struggling Sheffield Wednesday side.

Wrexham paid a hefty £10m fee for Broadhead, so it would be surprising if Parkinson’s most likely option was not to turn towards the Welsh international.

Phil Parkinson could dip back into the transfer market

As Wrexham have done on a number of occasions during the reign of Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, the Red Dragons have often turned towards the transfer market as a way to quash the impact of a major injury in the squad.

Parkinson would no doubt be backed by the Wrexham owners if he required extra backing in the summer window, especially after the injury sustained by Josh Windass.

Even if funds are tight following the eight-figure signing of Nathan Broadhead, a loan move could be sanctioned, which could give Wrexham the opportunity to sign a young Premier League talent.
