Wrexham finally got their summer spending underway this week with their first confirmed signing.

Wrexham have signed Ryan Hardie from Plymouth as Phil Parkinson bolsters his attacking options once again after capturing Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez in January.

Attentions now turn to central defence and midfield with Wrexham interested in Ryan Teague as the Australian would become the club’s first major overseas signing.

The Red Dragons are interested in a number of midfielders however, one Championship rival has been placed under a transfer embargo and it could spell bad news for Parkinson’s desire to bring in more players.

Sheffield Wednesday placed under transfer embargo

As per BBC Sport, Sheffield Wednesday have been placed under a transfer embargo until January 2027 following a failure to pay their staff’s wages on time.

It means that the club are now unlikely to depart with any of their players given that they are under severe restrictions to replace them.

Wrexham are interested in Barry Bannan as part of their plan to add creativity into their midfield options but the Scottish international looks set to remain at Hillsborough.

Michael Smith is a long-term Wrexham target but the striker has been retained by Wednesday given the circumstances they find themselves in.

Who could follow Ryan Hardie as Wrexham’s second signing of the summer?

All eyes are now on who follows Hardie through the door at the Racecourse Ground and given that Parkinson once again has seven strikers on his books, it looks likely to be in another area.

Wrexham are in talks with Danny Ward following his release from Leicester and that would be the easiest deal to complete given that he has no attachments to another club.

Craig Dawson has also been offered a contract by the club however, it is still unclear whether the defender is willing to make the drop down a division.

Things are beginning to bubble in the transfer market and fans will also be keeping an eye on departures with a number of big names set to leave.
