What Bruno Fernandes just said about Wrexham target Christian Eriksen will be music to Phil Parkinson’s ears

Christian Eriksen could be one of several players arriving at Wrexham this summer, and what a signing it would be for Phil Parkinson’s plucky Dragons.

Just a few years ago, Wrexham signed Paul Mullin from Cambridge United, pulling him from League Two down to the National League and then watching him help the club all the way to the Championship.

At the time, it was a huge signing. It remains a key signing on this incredible journey under Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, though the club’s ambitions have quickly outgrown Mullin.

Mullin looks set to leave Wrexham this summer after barely playing for Phil Parkinson’s side in the second half of last season. Now, Christian Eriksen could be on his way to the Racecourse, with growing murmurs that Wrexham want to sign Eriksen on a free transfer.

Going from Mullin to Eriksen in the space of a few years is pretty good going. And if we didn’t already need a reminder of how much quality Eriksen has, his former Man United teammate Bruno Fernandes has just given it.

Whilst Wrexham won promotion from League One, finishing 2nd and earning a third-straight promotion, in the not-so-distant land of Manchester, Man United went on to record a historic 15th place finish in the Premier League under Ruben Amorim. Despite a disastrous season, Fernandes was in form once again.

And on Sunday, Fernandes helped Portugal to lift the Nations League trophy after beating Spain in the final. After full-time, Fernandes had a message for his departing Man United teammate Eriksen, and his high-praise will surely attract the attention of Parkinson.

Fernandes told TV Sport 2: “It was a pleasure and a privilege to play alongside Christian. He is a top, top player who has been at the top level for so long. At the same time, he is a top, top person. I am very grateful that I had the chance to play with Christian

“He is always professional and ready to help the team. Even in this season, which was difficult for him because he played less and less. But he was always there in training and in matches, and he was always positive. He deserves the best in the future, and I will cheer for him.”

Christian Eriksen’s career stats to date are insane

Eriksen, now 33, has long been heralded as one of the Premier League’s most creative players ever. He’s one of those midfielders who can operate deeper or more forward, picking out killer passes and creating goals for fun, as well as scoring his share of goals too.

Wrexham have several midfielders on their shortlist this summer but Eriksen is by far the most exciting link so far, and the most exiting link of anyone too. And despite playing a more back up role in the last two seasons at Old Trafford, Fernandes’ praise of the Dane tells us just how good a player he is.

Wrexham will spend a lot of money on player wages this summer, but whether or not the club has the capacity to accommodate a player like Eriksen, who was no doubt on a six-figure weekly salary at Man United, remains unlikely.
