Wrexham are keen to bring Josh Windass to the Racecourse Ground following his Sheffield Wednesday exit, but the former Owls man may have one mental blockade that could prohibit Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac from pursuing a deal.
Wrexham have finished their Australia and New Zealand pre-season tour, with the Red Dragons recording one win and two defeats while Down Under.
After two successive poor performances, particularly in front of goal, Wrexham are likely to sign more attackers.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac are reportedly interested in spending big money on a striker. One name linked to the club, although he won’t cost a fee, is Josh Windass after his Sheffield Wednesday exit.
Unfortunately, one thing could prohibit Windass from being keen on such a move to North Wales.

Why Josh Windass may not be in favour of Wrexham move
Wrexham target Josh Windass is currently a free agent after his contract was mutually ended amid the financial uncertainties plaguing Sheffield Wednesday.
Windass’ availability is likely set to alert many Championship clubs, with Wrexham interested in attaining the goalscorer.
Unfortunately, one thing that could stand in Windass’ way is the reported interest that Rangers have in him.
Windass played for the Scottish giants earlier on in his career, and has expressed sadness over how his time at the Ibrox ended.
Speaking to the Open Goal podcast, Windass said: “I didn’t have an agent at the time. It was a bad decision. But I just got in my car and went down the motorway.
“Mick Beale (assistant manager) was texting me, saying ‘you’re making a big mistake’. I was 23, I wanted a bigger wage. I was stupid.
“We had a zoom call about six months later because I was going to go back on loan,” added Windass. “Gerrard basically gave me what for. He told me everything that was wrong with me and how I can improve and stuff as a person.
“He said if we are going to bring you back we need to have an honest conversation. I never went back anyway and that was it. It’s ages ago now, so I’m not that bothered by it. But for two years after, I thought about it every day until I signed for Sheffield Wednesday.”

Rangers’ interest could hinder Wrexham’s chances
The current Josh Windass saga is a reminder that Wrexham are fighting amongst many big teams in their pursuit to improve their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season.
Wrexham are keen to bring in proven goalscoring firepower to partner Ryan Hardie this summer; however, fighting Rangers will be a huge task in this pursuit, particularly when looking at the love that Windass has for his former club.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac should still continue to show their ambition by targeting Windass, but the likelihood of a deal may be taken out of their hands because of the upper-hand that Rangers possess.
