Wrexham could net £1.07m to increase Phil Parkinson’s January transfer budget by selling these six players

A number of players could leave Wrexham during the 2025 winter transfer window, several of which could bring in decent fees.

The focus at the Racecourse Ground in the first 11 days of the transfer window has, unsurprisingly, been on incomings.

Wrexham have been linked with several strikers, the majority of which are playing in the Championship at present.

Patrick Bamford is unlikely to complete a transfer despite reports crediting the Red Dragons with an interest last month.

However, one of Bamford’s Leeds United teammates, Joe Gelhardt, is a target of Wrexham and will be allowed to secure himself a move this month as confirmed by his current manager, Daniel Farke.

But which players could be set to depart Wales in the coming weeks? Nine players have been tipped to leave Wrexham in a report from The Athletic previously.

And we have now taken a look at six players the Red Dragons could sell to earn over £1m to add to Phil Parkinson’s January transfer budget.

Six players Wrexham could sell in January transfer window

Will Boyle joined the Hollywood-owned side in 2023 from Huddersfield Town and was a key part of them winning promotion from League Two.

He’s only played 270 minutes of football in 2024/25, however, none of which has come in the league.

Luke Bolton is another fairly recent addition, joining in February 2024 from Salford City but despite now being back from injury, he continues to be left out of League One matchday squads.

George Evans has found playing time very hard to come by this term, with the arrival and excellent form of Matty James reducing his chances of getting minutes in midfield even further.

James Jones is another midfielder Wrexham should look to move on this month as he’s out of contract in June so any money recouped this month would be a big bonus.

Anthony Forde is able to play in the league during January despite not being registered in the club’s League One squad.

But unless Parkinson is planning to drop someone else in the second half of 2024/25, which seems unlikely, it doesn’t make sense to keep him around.

Billy Waters spent the first half of this season on loan in the National League with Halifax Town.

But he’s now returned to Wrexham and is likely to be surplus to requirements given Parkinson already has five strikers with another probably on the way in January.

Transfermarkt give the above six players a total transfer value of €1.275m, which works out at around £1.07m

Record Wrexham transfer sales

None of the above players have major market values – Bolton’s €400,000 being the highest.

But this isn’t surprising given Wrexham are currently in League One and have never been a huge, selling club.

Their record sale saw Bryan Hughes join Birmingham City for £1.25m in the 1996/7 season.

There’s then a significant drop off with Neil Roberts signing for Wigan Athletic for £500,000 in 1999.

Wrexham’s top-five record sales, as per Transfermarkt, are rounded out by Barry Hunter (£419,000) to Reading, David Brammer to Port Vale £406,000 and Craig Morgan to MK Dons (£314,000).
