Wrexham need to flex their financial muscle and beat European side to 13-goal EFL superstar

Wrexham have one big priority in the summer transfer window the club must look to address, with a 13-goal player being a great option to do so.

It’s hard to argue there were many weak points in Wrexham’s squad across the 2024/25 campaign.

The Dragons won a third straight promotion, and their points total of 92 was a club record in the EFL.

But now they are in the Championship, positions will need to be upgraded, with Parkinson confirming players will leave in the coming months.

How much money Wrexham could spend in the transfer market isn’t 100 percent clear at this stage, but the latest information we have from one finance expert suggests the club will have around £40m to play with.

And the Welsh outfit should be putting some of that money toward finally signing another number-10 style midfielder to compete with Elliot Lee.

Wrexham need to rival Valencia for Josh Windass

One of Wrexham’s main problems in 2024/25 was that their strikers did not receive the required service.

A lot of the club’s attacks start out wide from the advancing wing-backs, but when that isn’t working, the creativity through the middle has, at times, been lacking.

Lee is the most attacking of all Wrexham’s current midfield options, but when he isn’t playing or off his game, the threat in the centre of the pitch dries up.

So, it would make a lot of sense for Parkinson to bring in a new midfielder who can cause problems in the middle of the park.

Josh Windass should be a Wrexham target, and there is now interest in his services from another club.

Sheffield Wednesday triggered an extension in Windass’ contract last week, keeping him at Hillsborough for another 12 months.

Despite this, reports are now saying that La Liga outfit Valencia are eyeing a move for the high-scoring Owls ace.

But he is exactly the type of player Wrexham need to be looking at to strengthen their very light attacking midfield department.

Josh Windass stats vs Wrexham midfielders

Across 2024/25, Wrexham did not have many, if any, high-scoring players.

Lee, who played as a midfielder and up front across the season, ended as their top goalscorer in all competitions with nine.

In comparison, Windass hit 13 goals and provided five assists in 44 league matches in the division above.

Competing with Valencia wouldn’t be easy, but Wrexham have flexed their financial muscle in the past, including landing Parkinson when they were in the National League and the manager had interest from West Brom.
