Wrexham are pushing to make it three promotions in a row but are facing heavy competition in League One.
A third successive promotion seemed somewhat unrealistic when the 2024/25 season got underway.
Wrexham were predicted to finish 19th in League One by Opta before a ball had been kicked but those expectations have been smashed out of the park.
The Red Dragons beat Crawley Town 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, seeing them maintain third place and move to within four points of second-place Wycombe Wanders.
There is still plenty of the campaign to play, however, and it’s hard to predict exactly where the Welsh outfit will finish.
Birmingham City are going to win League One and while second place is up for grabs, Wrexham may have to settle for a play-off spot.
On that front, one of their promotion rivals have now made a major signing on deadline day who would have been a great addition in Wales and the perfect rival for Elliot Lee.

Wrexham rival sign perfect Elliot Lee cover
While centre-forward was the main priority for the club this window, they probably could have done with a new number 10 through the door.
At present, Lee is the only player capable of operating as the most advanced midfield in a three-man system.
And while he is good, scoring seven already this term, the club have very little quality if he’s not fit or out of form.
We have seen this at times in 2024/25 with Wrexham really struggling to create an awful lot through the middle.
Previously, we suggested Wrexham should sign Alex Gilbert from Middlesbrough as he’s an incredibly creative player who would excel at League One level.
However, one of the Red Dragons’ play-off rivals have now beat them to the punch, with seventh-place Charlton Athletic signing the Boro ace.
Gilbert may have struggled for minutes ahead of the sensational Finn Azaz but if he gets a run of matches under his belt, he could aid Charlton’s play-off push massively.

Phil Parkinson leaves door open to Wrexham transfers
While not likely, the door is still open for the Red Dragons to make another signing on deadline day.
Parkinson spoke about Wrexham transfers recently and hinted that even after three additions this month, more arrivals could happen.
He said: “We’re going to have a good chat because we’ve had a very hectic few days.
“Shaun Harvey is with us and we’ll decide where we go in the next few days. At the moment, we’re just assessing a few things. You never say never but this week has been a good week for us in the transfer market, and it’ll give all of the lads a lift.”
